All right, I give up, time to purchase software for movie making
« on: December 11, 2015, 06:55:50 PM »
So I went to photoshop, thought it would be easy, just purchase a software package.  Sure.  Except there's umpteen thousand choices.  I just want to be able to edit my videos into watchable shorts.  Why is this so complicated?  I just want to be able to crop a picture and resize it in one spot.  Why does it all have to be so ARRRGGGHHHH.

Ummm. . .Photoshop isn't the easiest to learn. You have to start looking up tutorials specifically for what you want to do. I've had Adobe CS in several versions for years now, and I still have to look up tutorials sometimes.

BTW, what do you mean by you purchased a software package? Exactly what all is in it?

I haven't purchased anything.  I am TRYING to.  I used to have photoshop about a thousand years ago when digital cameras came with floppy discs, remember? I don't remember having any trouble with it at all.

If not photoshop then what?

Read this article and the comments...

If possible, I would try a trial version of what I think I may want... before making a purchase.

Photoshop is a LOT different now from what came with cameras. Photoshop's newer versions only come with weekly/monthly/yearly subscriptions, and it's done online.

I'll be sticking with the last CS6 Master version of Adobe Suite that's on my computer.

Lola's right. Find things with "free trials." Even if you can't make the final version without a huge watermark or something, it's easier to find out first if you can actually use the program.

You might want to look through this program group. I use Finalburner of theirs because it does a good job of burning several formats. They've got DVD Maker for making them in a free version and a PRO version:

And here are 5 free web-based Photoshop alternatives with Pixlr being the closest to Photoshop:

For some reason I thought photoshop WAS adobe. Could have sworn the page I was looking at earlier was calling itself adobe photoshop premiere elements.

Yes, free trials is what I was hoping to find, first.  Thanks!

I just found this link to explore too:

en.softonic.com/s/adobe-movie-maker

and this

adobe-premiere-elements.en.softonic.com

but not tonight.

All of these are in CS6 and all of them are Adobe products:

• Adobe After Effects
• Adobe Audition
• Adobe Bridge
• Adobe Dreamweaver
• Adobe Encore
• Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit
• Adobe Extension Manager
• Adobe Fireworks CS6
• Adobe Flash Builder
• Adobe Flash Professional
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe InCopy
• Adobe InDesign
• Adobe Media Encoder
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Prelude
• Adobe Premiere Pro
• Adobe SpeedGrade

There won't be any upgrades to those anymore though except through the subscription service. CS6 was the last bundle version that you can out and out buy from what I've been told.

Photoshop Premiere Elements is different from Photoshop.

If you want to know what Adobe products do, here it is in video starting with Premiere Elements:

I used to use Roxio quite a bit.  It does a TON of things, but you don't have to use everything.  If you find a trial version and like it... let me know.  I probably still have it around here somewhere.
