Ground Mouse (Mice)
« on: December 15, 2015, 08:52:38 AM »
I did it!  I ordered ground mouse from Hare-Today.  I think whole mice would be less "ewie."  But I am only allowed :) to feed crickets when hubby isn't home, so I figure whole mice would be a huge gross factor for him.

Baby steps...

I mixed up my first batch of raw all by myself yesterday...without gagging.  :)  Hubby usually handles the raw meat.  Sooooo, I figured it was time for the next step... ground mouse.  The cats LOVE rabbit, so I'm thinking ground mouse is going to have them dancing around the house!

Pookie,
Hubby doesn't like the crunching sound of the live crickets when being eaten.  We had a Tree Frog for years that we fed live crickets to... didn't bother hubby at all.  Maybe the difference is the frog didn't play with the crickets before eating them.  lol

The ground mouse comes in a 16 oz container.  Since it is whole mice... I don't have to add anything else... right?  Or not right.
I am so excited... it will be here tomorrow.  I still haven't told hubby.  tee hee

The only thing I can think of that you might want to add is taurine, since there's no way to know how much is lost in the grinding/freezing process.  It couldn't hurt, if you want to do it.

I SO can't wait to hear about hubby's reaction when he finds out.   funny2

How many crickets do you give them at a time. I'm thinking about Jennie and Queen Eva, I'm not sure Mazy cat would be interested but the other two would probably go crazy for them.

We have a Petco here now they probably sell them.

I forget, how do you...do...the crickets?

I almost purchased taurine with my Hare Today order...just to have on hand...but did't.

I buy 10 crickets at a time.  It just seems like a nice round number.  lol  The small crickets are really small.  I buy the large size.
The first time I put the crickets in the bathtub and let the cats catch and eat them in there.  None of the cats waited in line for their turn very nicely.  Silly7  Now, I just dump the crickets in the middle of the dining room.  It is easier and a LOT moe fun!   Silly7

This says it's sourced from Japan pre-earthquake?  http://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/alnutrin_supplements.html

I buy the Alnutrin For Meat And Bone.  That is what I add to the meats, bones, and organs that I mix up from Hare Today.
I don't add anything to the My Pet Carnivore products.  I was thinking the mouse would be sorta the same thing.
Half the world says to add supplements and the other half says it isn't necessary, if feeding 80/10/10.   :-\
That is pretty much why I feed MPC, Rad Cat, Stella & Chewys, and the mixture from Hare-Today... hoping if there is any deficiencies in one, another will make up for it.

To clarify... I did some editing, but it probably only made matters worse... the Taurine being sold at Hare-Today is from Alnutrin and it is sourced from Japan.
