Here's Why You Should Never Shave Your Double-Coated Dog

This is why we don't shave Barkly here in the hotter southern temperatures--despite his ridiculously thick coat.

In one of the photos, you can see her shoes at the bottom, and you can see the heat from her feet.

Wow, that's really interesting!  And when you think about it, it makes sense -- Nature knows what She's doing and one would think they wouldn't survive as well if they were overheated from all that fur.  But I never thought about that til now.  Thanks for sharing!

Actual wolves in the wild are probably the ultimate example. No one is running around after them with clippers.

Like I've told many before, you trim because you think they'll shed less? No. They're still going to shed the same number of hairs, they're just shorter and look like less in the pile you gather. Much easier to see longer hairs than short hairs as well since the shorter hairs can embed themselves into carpeting and leave less for a vacuum's beater bar to grab hold of--unlike longer hair.

We had a groomer shave our double coated Collie once.  The dog was MISERABLE.  Never did it again.
