RIP, Earl
Brilliant manager who got the best out of players, even ones whom no other teams would touch.
In one of his famous exchanges with umpires, he said "I'm going to check the rule-book on that!" When the umpire said, "Here, use mine." Weaver told him, "That's no good - I can't read Braille!!"
His antics were to take heat off of the players caught up in controversial plays. He always said (paraphrasing) that if a player gets tossed, it's more costly to the team; if the manager gets tossed, so what. In this case, it's (then future) Hall of famer, 1st baseman Eddie Murray.
