Help -unwanted app?
« on: June 24, 2018, 06:24:41 PM »
This has popped up and won't go away.  There is no way to click it off. No X, no close tab.  don't know what it is, don't want it.  I have not tried to click on "configure"

It keeps my system running al the time, I know because the screen never goes dark now, and I have it set to go dark after 5 minutes of no activity.

Also when I went to apps to try to find it and get rid off it (its not on the list that I can tell) there are all these apps that I never installed. Where the heck did they come from and is it safe to get rid of them.

You mean, run a scan? Quick or thorough?  What will that do?  It does run automatically.

I did a search and found a lot of instructions on how to remove it but I can't follow any of them.  I am just too dense when it comes to following tech advice.

One suggestion was to run malwarebytes free version.  I've done that before, not on this computer.

PS I am running a scan. I started with quick, because I thnk the thorough already ran today, but that thing remains.

Here are some instructions about removing this.  Can someone tell me if these instructions are safe. I am not sure I will be able to follow them anyway.

Actually I did all that earlier but Chominium wasn't listed in the list.

Yes you can get rid of it like that. I've had to get rid of it before. It came attached with a program that I actually wanted, and I didn't notice that it was installing both.

You mean by downloading their reimage malware scan or just uninstalling?  I've just uninstalled a few things that I don't know what they were. The rest is all microsoft, acer or other programs I use. Now I have to restart but I'll wait until the virus scan is done.

It must have come with an adobe install but I don't remember the exact date I installed that either.

If I were closer, I'd do it for you. It's easy if you do what it says and print it. If you don't have a printer, take a bunch of screenshots and put them on your desktop.

I would run this.  It is free.  I have NEVER had ANY issues using it.  A lot of virus programs don't play nice with other programs.  Or they want to remove things that aren't spyware, viruses, malware, etc.  This program has never done any of that.

DeeDee,
It isn't Chromium.  It is Chrominio.

Look at the photo again. . .it's a new version of Chromium

Nowhere, that I have seen, has the latest Chrominio version been referred to as Chrominio.  However... carry on.  I'm out.
