Saginaw groomer Shon Kelley has heard all the arguments.

"Declawing is just fine, as long as it's done when they're younger," said Kelley, proprietor of Saginaw's Dogone Classy.

He grooms several cats at his business on Gratiot, some with claws and others with none. He believes if an owner is going to seek declawing of a cat, the procedure should be reserved for indoor felines only and limited to the front claws. Back claws are needed for defense and climbing, he said.

"They don't need their front claws for anything if they're going to be fat lazy house cat," he said.

OMG, SERIOUSLY?!?!?!  There is so much wrong with that statement, and the misinformation he's spouting . . .  bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead bangshead

Yes, it's horrible the things people seem to think about this.  Vets perpetuate these fallacies, telling their clients indoor cats don't need claws, "it's no different than a spay".  Never mind that a cat needs her claws to express herself, stretch, exercise, and walk.
