. . .but I just really don't think that this polar bear looks like it's petting the dog. I think it looks more like a cat playing with its food.

While I can see how some people might think it looks like the bear is petting the dog, I've seen enough of my own cat playing with his toys (and the mice he'd catch) to agree with you, Dee.  It's like the bear is checking to see if the dog is alive and therefore edible.   :(

Sad about the dog that did get eaten.   :(
