Awesome hike yesterday!
« on: November 21, 2017, 08:16:28 AM »
My friend and I met for a hike yesterday down in the Catskills, really wonderful day.  It was very cold with about 2 inches of dry powdery snow on the trail (no ticks yay) but some areas (the places that are normally muddy/wet during warmer days) were very icy.  It's a pretty steep hike but I've done it a million times so no surprises. It's just an up and back, we didn't do the loop as that adds about 1 1/2 miles and more difficult climbing, and as it was it was dark by the time I got home.

Pictures to follow.

My first sight of the mountains, on my way there, plus a little closer, then a little closer.  I love these views

On the way up the mountain, it was a bright blue sky sunny day

Near the top it started getting a little frosty.  This stretch is always one of my absolute favorite parts of this trail, regardless of the season.

There is no view from the top unless you climb the fire tower, which we did not do.  She usually does, but it was very cold and windy and for once she didn't.  I haven't gone up the tower in years.

On the way down the clouds had moved in and it was even colder, the ice was slick and we had a fine mist of snow blowing in our face.  But it was heavenly.  She forgot her yaktrax, but did have her poles.  I had the yaktrax on, and my pole.  Neither of us fell on the ice.

Half an hour from home, I went around a bend and wow, the sunset!

It's a winter wonderland!  All of the photos are beautiful.  Thanks for sharing!  I'm glad you had a good time!

That looks beautiful, but I'm glad there's no snow here.

It's a winter wonderland!

That is EXACTLY what it was Pookie!

Thanks for looking both of you.  The mountain is 4,046 feet at the peak.  You climb about 2,000 feet in 2.7 miles.  Most of it is pretty steep, but it isn't rough terrain except for the muddy (or icy) sections. Going down is more difficult than going up.
