Pet food rating system?
« on: November 15, 2013, 03:35:23 PM »
From Susan Peters
http://asksusanpeters.net/cat_food_rating.html
I really don't understand her point system, it seems she takes off a point if its canned, and it seems it rated higher if there is fish in it??   :-\ You can click on each food to see the explanations for the points on each food

On a side note I would not be feeding fish to my pets or myself right now. Can we say Fukishima!!

So what I'm to take from all that is that though she's all for safe pet food, she's NOT for safe pet food for cats (more species appropriate). Am I getting that right?

She calls water a "cheap filler".  Apparently she has no idea how important moisture is for cats.  I wouldn't trust a word she says, based on that single extremely important factor.

She has an e mail address on her site.  I wrote to her:

Dear Susan,

You don't seem to understand how important moisture is for cats.  Water is not a "cheap filler" in canned cat food.  It is an extremely important and necessary part of a cat's diet.  Crucial, in fact. Dry food diets are killing cats.

Please visit Dr Lisa Pierson's website, to help you understand this fact.:

She gives things like peas, barley and rice, in DRY food PLUS points.  Dry foods getting 8/10 ratings.  Good grief.  This person is dangerous.

The email bounced back.

How do you get to her facebook page?  I have something to say to this whacko.

https://twitter.com/AskSusanPeters is her Twitter

But I'm sorry, I can't find her FB. I even tried to "LIKE" her webpage to see if it would come up in mine, nope. Not there.

If you do have twitter, you can get more than 140 characters by using:

twitlonger.com

That way you can give them a proper chewing out.

EDIT:

Heck, I'm not even sure if Susan Peters is her real name.

The name sounds familiar.  If I'm remembering correctly... she didn't use to be that way.   :(

Sounds like she is using Susan Thixton's point system... minus points for moisture.    ::)

Correction:  I have been told Susan has seen the light...finally, and is no longer deducting points in that manner.

Edit:  The name IS familiar:  http://parenting-furkids.com/index.php?topic=1246.msg7505

She is, or used to be, DogPawer and CatPawer on Twitter.  I followed her, before DeeDee took over... and did a MUCH better job.  :)

Read through some of her reviews... Wow, just wow.
Shadow, how did you find her?  I'm thinking she isn't too active anymore.  At least that is what I hope.

I was googling reviews on a pet food and that came up.

The copyright at the bottom of that website is 2010.
So, it would seem that she is not keeping that site current, or doesn't feel the need to change anything on it.
Either way, another example of old info still floating around on the web, perpetuating bad habits.
