So, what's the first thing to do with a stung cat?
« on: August 18, 2017, 10:02:02 PM »
I know what to do with dogs:

Stick some benedryl down them.
Make sure stinger isn't still in.
Make a paste of baking soda and put on it along with an ice pack.
Rush to vet if things start obviously going south.

But what do you do with cats that get stung by stinging insects?

I'm wondering b/c of the poor things here in this post:

I haven't had to deal with that, but I've read a number of threads on it over the years.  Some people take their cats to the vet (what I would do) others opt to "wait and see".

Eww, I just looked at the link. I thought it was going to be about what to do, but it was people making fun of their cats.  I hate that. Idiots.

The idiots not giving info on what to do is why I asked.

I do't know. Well.  I would call the vet first thing.  If it was Jennie or Queen Eva I'd take them in.  If it was Mazy cat I would hope to be given remedy without needing to bring her in.

Benadryl is probably the most common treatment. Soaking or warm compress on the area?

Homeopathy came to mind, particularly the remedy Apis.  I did a super-quick Google and found this (I'd go with the baking soda applied topically, as I think lemon juice or vinegar would sting):
