By Nature - Not The Company It Used To Be
« on: September 12, 2015, 09:27:20 AM »
Didn't they used to be totally kibble free?

The company kinda went down the drain, after discontinuing their organic line.  Their previous non-organic line was better than their new line(s).  IMHO - VERY disappointing.

Their 95% line contains a lot of fish.
Ingredients for the chicken recipe:
Quote
Chicken, chicken liver, chicken broth, vegetable broth, sweet potato, potassium chloride, tricalcium phosphate, guar gum, agar-agar, salt, xanthan gum, calcium carbonate, cassia gum, carrots, apples, cranberries, broccoli, spinach, turmeric, fennel, blueberries, pomegranate, taurine, choline chloride, Vitamin A supplement, Vitamin D3 supplement, Vitamin E supplement, Vitamin B12 supplement, biotin, sodium selenite, folic acid, calcium iodate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, d-calcium pantothenate, niacin supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate.

Not much good to shout about, after the first 3 ingredients.

Their stew line only has one non-fish choice.

Quote
Beef, beef broth, vegetable broth, egg, chicken, tapioca starch, pea protein, carrots, green peas, sweet potato, salt, guar gum, choline chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium sulfate, taurine, ascorbic acid, apples, pumpkin, broccoli, spinach, fennel, turmeric, tomato, goji berries, zinc amino acid chelate, Vitamin E supplement, copper amino acid chelate, iron amino acid chelate, niacin supplement, d-calcium pantothenate, manganese amino acid chelate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, Vitamin A supplement, calcium iodate, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, biotin, Vitamin D3 supplement, Vitamin B12 supplement.

Sad.  Just sad.

That's a lot of gums. And Xanthum Gum CAN upset some stomachs, so I'd be worried about that one especially.

RE this section: guar gum, agar-agar, salt, xanthan gum, calcium carbonate, cassia gum,

They've always had kibble. One of the things that was really annoying about them was that all their promotions and give always and coupons were for their kibble, not canned products.

I notice that carrageenan has been taken out of the 95% but agar-agar added, which is pretty much the SAME THING. Yep, they've gone downhill.

This usually happens when a larger company buys out a small independent decent pet food company.  That's what happens to all of them, in fact.  I wonder who has taken control of By Nature.  Too bad.

And there you go:
https://www.kentww.com/history/

In 2006, Blue Seal Feeds expanded their product line to include a focus on growing the dog and cat food line, By Nature® brand, into pet specialty stores beyond the Blue Seal Feeds retail stores and dealer distribution channels. In 2008, Blue Seal Feeds acquired I. L. Richer, a major manufacturer and supplier of dairy feed products and services to the central and eastern New York dairy market. Also in 2008, Blue Seal Feeds acquired United Foods Corporation, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of dairy, poultry and livestock feed in upper New England. In 2010, Blue Seal Feeds joined with Kent Feeds, Inc. to form the Kent Nutrition Group Feed Division.

In 2010, Kent Nutrition Group, Inc. combined Kent Feeds and Blue Seal Feeds into one organization focused on serving commercial livestock producers, equine, small pet owners, and lifestyle enthusiasts.

In 2010 the Pet Division was formed into its own company, serving the fast growing pet industry. Kent Pet Group combines the pet products groups from Kent Feeds, Blue Seal Feeds, and sister company, Grain Processing Corporation’s World’s Best Cat Litter™. This new Pet Division meets the needs of the ever-growing pet categories of dog and cat markets.

The changes started I would say back in 2013, so...that's the typical time span for buyouts, mergers, takeovers, to  start making those "cost saving" changes.
