With the furlough everything is a mess. SO is one of the 120k whose pay records were sent for review to avoid over payment. Why would military retirement be an overpay on current employment?

Good to hear that you got that benchmark taken care of.

I sent mine via USPS Certified Mail on March 1st.  I just tracked it and it STILL hasn't been delivered.  It shows "In transit, arriving late."  WTH??!  I could have driven the d-mn thing to the IRS and back by now!  This has never been an issue before!

And no, I don't do efiling.

Why?  In my state e filing (for state taxes) is required, if you have broadband internet.  They used to fine you $25 for paper filing but I guess that fine has been removed. (I looked it up to be sure I was telling it right)

I absolutely loathe doing the taxes which is so dumb, because I own nothing and my taxes are about as simple as you can get. But I can't stand all those cutesy phrases turbo uses and I just get so annoyed with it all, I usually put it off until early March, as I did again this year, even though it takes less than an hour, once I finally get started.  But IRS refund, tiny as it was, was deposited within 2 weeks of me filing. State refund (even tinier) was about a week later.  :)

Why?

Because even though they can probably access it on their own, I'm not giving ANYONE my bank account information, including the IRS.

Next comment is NOT a jerk comment.  With that said...every time you write a check to anyone, they have your bank account info.

I know.  Still not giving anyone (permission to) electronically access my accounts.  I can't control hackers (and if I recall, the IRS was hacked a few years ago), but I can control who I give the information to, at least in this case.  I can wait for my refunds - given the amounts, it's not like I'll starve if I have to wait.

It's not about waiting, in my case.  I have no choice. I have broadband internet and my state requires electronic filing. :)

I would do it anyway. I loathe paperwork.

Oh, I use software to actually prepare the taxes and could use it to efile if I wanted.  I just choose to print and mail it instead, since in my state, it's still an option.  (Please don't give the twits running this state any more ideas...)

Nope, but I got my state refund in the mail today, and I sent that at the same time.  I printed out the USPS tracking info and will stop by H&R Block tomorrow to ask what, if anything, I need to do about the situation, e.g. file a late return . . .

I had stopped by the Post Office a couple of weeks ago when it was showing it was In Transit.  The woman there checked online herself but she couldn't see any more information that I could  :-\  and told me to give it more time as the post office that delivers to the IRS was probably slammed.  Well, I'm sure it was busy, but it's not like I waited until the last minute!  That was the whole point -- I sent it on March 1st.

*sigh*

And if anyone is thinking that maybe this experiene will make me eFile from now on . . . you'd be wrong.    :P
