FDA recalls thyroid medication

(1/1)

Lola:

--- Quote ---The Food and Drug Administration has issued a voluntary recall for a thyroid medication made by a Chinese manufacturer because of potential problems with an ingredient.

In the Aug. 9 statement, the FDA said Levothyroxine and Liothyronine 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg, and 120 mg thyroid tablets are being recalled as a precaution.

Middle Child:
Fox should check it's facts better.  Levothyroxine comes in mcg (micrograms) not mg (milligrams)

Thanks for the info though. Thankfully my medication is not on that list. I take Synthroid (name brand) and it is not made from porcine thyroid.

Edit...I see the info comes straight from the FDA website.  So FDA has it wrong, or this combined medication comes in different measurements than plain thyroid meds.

They also do not make it clear that this is ONE MED, with two medicines in it combined.

--- Quote ---Editor’s note: A previous version of this story indicated two thyroid medications have been recalled. Only one medication has been recalled, but it contains both Levothyroxine and Liothyronine (Thyroid Tablets, USP).

Incompetency at it's best.
