Texas veterinarian sues state board that suspended him for helping pet owners
The state suspended Ron Hines for giving advice to pet owners on his web site.

What particularly irks the veterinary board, apparently, is a service Hines added to his site to try to help individual pet owners. Like anyone who writes about pet health or any consumer topic, Hines found himself flooded with emails seeking advice, so he began offering individual advice for a $58 fee, although Hines said he waives the fee for pet owners who can't pay.

Besides helping the pet owners, Hines said the feedback from readers helps him improve and update his general articles and the income helps pay the costs of keeping the site up and running. He said he made $ $2,797.24 in 2011.

I may not personally be fond of some of Dr. Hines' advice, but that isn't the point. IMHO The board has their panties all twisted because he is giving advice, without physically examining the animals.  BUT it is okay if a vet examines a cat (for example) and then writes a prescription for an RX "food" that isn't really medicine, full of carbs, and cat's can't chew it?  That's okay?

I would rather give an online vet allll the necessary details.  Allow (or pay for) that vet to give me advice...rather than pay a vet, in person, and have him or her prescribe the following.

Hills Prescription Diet:

Why isn't anyone going after the vets on Catster?  You can bet they are being paid by SOMEONE.

Ummm...looking through those ingredients that make me gag...then came to "coconut oil."

I thought cats weren't supposed to get coconut oil?
