wow!  We have eagles here now too, more every year, but I've never had the privilege of seeing one so close.  Usually I see them gliding in a thermal above the river.

The closest I've seen a wild eagle was at my dad's house.  His house is situated on a bluff above the bay up in WA.  An eagle came soaring along the edge of the bluff at just about eye level... I nearly dropped the dish I was washing.

There was also the summer we took a bike ride at Lake Coeur d'Alene where the old railroad tracks have been paved over especially for bikes.  We started on one side, crossed the old railroad bridge through the osprey sanctuary and over to the little town on the other side... where eagles were perched in the tall pines, feasting on fish.  That was a really great day.
