Bottled Water Drinkers Will CRINGE
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:01:05 PM »
I'm a tap water drinker.   :o  Thinking of using a filter system.  Any thoughts on this one?

I do know, that if one has a crystal kitty, one needs to avoid using tap water, as it has too many minerals in it, and they need to use purified drinking water, and this, is straight from my vet, mol. She also said that Brita or Purr is even better.   :-* grouphug TexasFlag bumpgif

Our water is so hard, that I always notice when I've been lazy when watering my plants with tap water... soooo much mineral buildup.
Several years ago, one of the vets I'd gone to remarked how many cats in our city have kidney issues, compared to where he was from.

I actually "double filter" our drinking water.  I have the PUR on the tap, and I fill the Brita pitcher (for the 'fridge) from there.
Whenever Costco has sales on the filters, I stock up.

I actually like the taste of our tap water.  It isn't too hard and no smell.
It is just something I have been mulling over a bit.  Adding a filter to the faucet, would keep bottle drinking visitors from thinking I'm trying to kill them, by not having bottled water on hand...and better for the furkids probably as well.
I'll check out the differences between Brita and Pur.  Thanks.

Water filters don't filter out minerals.  Just to clarify. :)

I have hard well water. It's delicious. Since my cats are canned fed none of them drink water at all now so I don't have to worry about it anymore.  My FLUTD girl was the only one who drank, while she was on the c/d kibble, though she was a poor drinker always.  I'm beginning to wonder if the water was her problem all along.

I do add water to one cat's food, to slow her down and help her feel full.  Her pH reads steadily at 6.75.  I'm going to try cutting down the water in her food and see if it makes any difference.

Our cats don't drink much water either...if any.
I also add water to their food.
Hubby adds a LOT more water to their food, than I do.  He turns their food into soup.  I recently noticed that when he feeds the felines, one of them always barfs about 4 hours later.
Not sure if it is a coincidence or not, so the last two days...I've been doing all the feeding.
No massive amounts of water added to food...no barfing.
I'm leaning more towards the amount of water being the issue.
I'm going to continue this "test" for a few days.

Bottled water started as a product when China started buying tanker ships of water and there was a worldwide uproar about it. Then they created a market to sell us our own water for more than the price of gasoline so now China can buy all the fresh water they want by the tanker full as long as it is in bottles.

Sad that most locations in North America have as good or better water than found in the bottles and yet we buy it by the truckload. We are such well trained little consumers.

PS - Don't buy bottled water.

We dont buy bottled water. I use the Brita, and we are on a well.
Bottled water is a rip off, you dont really know what your getting, it could be just plain ole tap water.

We have some sort of 5 year filter, on the water line going to our refrigerator.  Personally, I can't tell the difference between that water and the water coming directly from the faucet.  But...
Maybe I will try the Brita pitcher, to keep visitors happy.

I'm on city water and the chlorine smell was disgusting, so I finally bought a Pur filter for my faucet.  Pookie's water is double-filtered -- 1st from the faucet filter, then through the charcoal filter in his water fountain.
