Feline acne and coconut oil
« on: June 10, 2015, 05:36:21 AM »
I thought I had talked about this before but don't know where, too lazy to look for the thread.  Jennie is sometimes prone to an acne spot on her chin.  I noticed it the other day because she was on the back of the couch looming over me trying to find a spot on me, between Mazy cat and Queen Eva.

It was a pretty big spot, all encrusted like they get. Very hard, I couldn't get the crusts to budge and I could tell it was painful for her when I tried.

Four days of putting a bit of coconut oil on it...acne is gone.  Just a little bare spot, where the fur needs to grow back.

Incidentally, after the first application, where she winced and fussed a bit, she actually started letting me put it on, it must have made it feel better, too.

I know I have posted many times that coconut oil should not be FED to cats, but I think it is safe to use it in this way.  What little she ingests is minuscule, and the acne clears up so fast!
