Anyone ever use an electirc or automatic letter opener?
« on: January 13, 2017, 05:01:39 PM »
I can't envision how they work.  I need one at my job during certain times of (tax and water collection periods) year.  My wrists are killing me and tax collection is only at 17%, and much of that has been at the counter.  The next two weeks are going to be murder.

And it's worse at water utility collection.

The Martin-Yales seem to be the most reviewed ones which probably makes them the most purchased ones: http://mailmetersupply.com/letter-openers.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAkuLDBRCRguCgvITww0YSJAAHrpf-3H-mMATDJVW0EMmhQCWMgPRXHlAavP93B36mHuje9BoCG4fw_wcB

I use one!! Got it in a package deal of stuff at an estate sale lol. It's got two motorized blades inside, much like a can opener, and they slice open the paper on the edge you slide through it :) mine is a Pelouze LO1 (haven't looked it up at all, that's just what's on it). Oh and it's 4 AA battery operated.

Used it to "shred" a credit card once, I wouldn't recommend it for that use funny2

Thanks Brandon, that's helpful.  The reviews at least gave me some idea how they work. I think I'm going to need the kind that doesn't cut the envelope though.  I can't be having checks and documents cut off. And of course I won't be able to use it on the ones that are covered in tape or staples (and yes I get those, frequently)

But some days during collection I am opening 300-400 envelopes a day.  Right now I'm only doing about 100 a day and my hands and wrists are suffering.

Have you found one that looks like it will work for you?  If so, have you ordered it?

Hoping your hands/wrists are doing well during busy season.   fingerscrossed

I haven't taken the time to look.  I'm just incredibly busy at work.  I don't know if it's feasible anyway.  The mail that comes in from residents is just...a mess.

Thank you.  I ordered some wrist ice packs, they haven't come yet. The other night my middle finger of my right hand was so painful I couldn't do anything with it, the whole hand, at all.  I took drugs, and rubbed aspercreme in it.  I now take the aspecreme to work with me and use it periodically. It helps a little.

:(  Do you think soaking your hands/wrists in epsom salts would help?
