By Nature Rabbit Stew
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:20:16 PM »
Since soooooo much can differ between, not just brands, but flavors as well...

Quote
Rabbit, Turkey Broth, Vegetable Broth, Turkey Liver, Egg, Bacon, Pea Flour, Natural Flavor, Potato Starch, Mushrooms, Carrots, Guar Gum, Salt, Cranberries, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Alfalfa Meal, Tomatoes, Spinach, Thyme, Taurine, Calcium Carbonate, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Niacin Supplement (Vitamin B3), Vitamin E Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Biotin (Vitamin B7), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D2 Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex, Folic Acid (Vitamin B9).

Pros:  No carrageenan, Xanthan gum, or Montmorillonite clay.
Cons:  Spinach (pretty far down on the list though. ??)

Anyone know where they source their rabbit from?

Edited to add:  Company Rep told MC (December 20, 2011) all their ingredients are sourced from the USA or Canada.

I tried Googling it, and the 3rd result I got was:

But isn't that cool, Lola? That PF hit so high on the results?

Especially considering that a recipe for Welsh Rarebit hit at #7?

EDIT:   The Welsh Rarebit recipe told me that Google didn't really have any idea at all what I was looking for because I NEVER look up recipes with cheese in them anymore. It's just too depressing since I can't make most of them. Sites WITH By Nature to sell came below the rarebit result. I'm not sure what Google thinks I want any longer. Something has made them confused about me lately--except for the PF result. That's the 3rd time ever that I've seen PF in the top 10 results of a search. Bing and Ask came up with nothing like what I wanted at all.

Yikes!! Bacon, and salt in it, Bacon is to salty for cats, and then salt is listed just after it, not good. Then alfala, tomatoes and spinach do not need to be in pet food and are not safe.
Sorry Lola :(

A long time ago they told me that all ingredients are sourced in the USA or Canada.

Is it a chunks in gray style Lola?  I'm going to need a new "junk food" type soon.  I've finally used up the last of the Natural Balance, and am almost done with the Castor&Pollux (Jennie & Queen Eva get a "junk food" canned food once a week)

Junk food is what I call a high carb chunks in gravy style food.

Both of the old ones I was using contain spinach, but not bacon or mushrooms or other weird stuff like that. That's just catering to the human.

Shadow, I think all commercial processed pet foods contain salt.

I'm not a fan of the potato starch in that ingredient list.   :(

Sorry Lola :(

No apologies necessary.  I'm just trying to list the pros and cons of different foods.  I appreciate input of ANY kind.

I would describe it as having a light gravy.  Not pate.  Pretty chunky.
Our kitties LOVE rabbit... I THINK this is one of the least offending brands.  ??

I nixed Wild Calling Rabbit.  I would have to read through posts here... to remember why.  Something someone said.  :)

Probably because it's made in Evanger's plants and Evanger's has a lot of issues, from lying about ingredient content, to rusty cans and possibly (allegedly) bribing witnesses.

I won't be buying any more either, of the chicken or the rabbit,  but I do have a bit to use up.

The Evangers canning is usually dented or rusty, plus what MC said.  Wilson used to throw up the WC, and Shadow too.  :-\
