Bears, Kidney Disease, and Hope for New Treatment
« on: August 12, 2015, 07:58:22 PM »
I saw this floating around and thought it interesting:

"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." Edward Hoagland
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have a dog."

I know this will sound cranky, and my apologies for that, but . . . it just irritates me that once again, they look at trying to find a treatment AFTER the damage is done instead of looking at the causes (inappropriate diet, anyone?) of the problem.  And there's something they're forgetting:  bears are omnivores.  So even if they figure out how the bear kidneys regenerate, there's no guarantee that it can be applied to carnivorous pets like dogs and cats.

You aren't alone in your "crankiness."  Honestly, the first time I read it... my eyes rolled a bit, due to similar thoughts.

I'm just concentrating on the last sentence.
