Well like I said, I've never used a remote host before, but that one sounds awesome! I may need to check them out sooner or later... Eventually I'm going to be moving, and my server will be offline for the duration, and beyond until I can establish a stable internet connection again...

That layout looks great, very clear and navigable + the colors are easy on the eyes.

Thanks, that's just the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

I know precisely what I want it to look like, I just have no idea how to go about creating it. Since I don't have the expertise to do it on my own, I may have to use one of their templates and there's no telling how close to what I want I'll actually be able to get.

You mentioned earlier that you had some tutorial links you could share with me. I'd like those links, if you don't mind, but I'm also interested in perhaps having someone complete the initial set-up for me. I'm working within a strict budget at the moment, but what I'm looking for is pretty basic... the question is, of course, is it basic enough for me to afford to just pay to have it done? You seem pretty knowledgeable in this area, what do you think?

I don't charge, truthfully.. This kind of thing, I do for fun lol. I don't recall what the default theme Wordpress uses looks like, but it shouldn't be difficult to find a theme that closely resembles that of your layout and modify it to be exactly like yours. Something I can do is set up a section on my website to work in, that way you can see how the page layout is coming along, and then once the modification is complete I can just send you the modified theme files and the rest will be history... In this way, I also won't need any username/passwords from you (you can join if you want, and I'll make you admin so you can learn your way around in an environment that isn't yet permanent). The only other question mark then is when I'll have time to work on it.. I recently went from part-time to full-time at my job, and I work nights.. However I am off this weekend so may be able to do and finish it then.

Of course I wrote all that assuming that you'd want me to work on it..... LOL. I don't know what someone else would charge. Anyway, let me know if you DO want me to give it a shot, and I'll get everything ready for viewing on my site :)

I have spent all (insert word of choice) day trying to work in wordpress and I'm ready to pull my hair out (and I really like my hair). Please, PLEASE, help me!!!! I will send you the only graphic I care about - the banner graphic - and the powerpoint file (for whatever that's worth) if you'll pm me your email address. And I'll send you my phone number so we can discuss in real-time.

GOD BLESS YOU FOR OFFERING!!! I was THIS CLOSE to pulling out the bottle of Sambuca and saying to h*** with it all.

Can you tell I'm a bit frustrated? *sigh*

Thank you again.

Wow, I see, hehe. I'll send you a PM. Having the ppt file to work with will be nice so I have something other than a small reference image :) As far as the phone... Do you have anything against real-time chat? I have a chat built into my site, what I don't have is very many long-distance minutes on my phone... lol

By the way, the URL when I get everything going will be http://www.ak49bwl.com:8080/

In fact, I'm feeling pretty mellow at this particular moment. *chuckle*

I await your pm.

Actually this may be a little more difficult than I originally thought.. The administrative interface is dang near useless, the include and variable files are all over the place so I'm having to search for what I want, and their PHP coding style is incredibly difficult to figure out. This.... Is going to be interesting.

Well, at least I know it's not just me. *sigh*

If wordpress won't easily yield what I'm looking for, maybe there's another interface that will. I only installed it because ConciousCat is using it and that's the website with the structure I want. Thanks!

I'm making it bend to my will... Eventually it will resemble what we're looking for.. But first I have to figure out how to get two columns of sidebars the Wordpress way.. lol

Don't know if it'll help any, but here's another site with a similar set-up... PetConnection.com/blog

Had to do some interesting things, including finding a theme that was already set up similarly to what we're looking for... And I think, I hope, this is pretty good! Have a look everyone :D

Only 2 things that jump out at me right off the bat...
  • It loads "large".  I had to scroll out a little to get to a comfortable visual point for reading.
  • Not sure about the ALL CAPS font for the tabs.  I'd use something with caps/smalls.  They also seem a little large, and could use a little space between them.

Other than that, everything is set up nicely, very self explanatory.
The colors are easy on the eyes, and I like how the comment links are plainly visible.
I saw the RSS feed, but didn't see links for FB/Twitter, etc.,.  Even though I don't use those things myself, I know they are popular and useful for some folks.

Overall, I'd say nicely done.    ;D thumbsup1

Edit:
Just noticed a little detail...
Did you mean for the URL & tags to show for the mountain picture?

.
meow meow meow meow meow meow? -woof!
Translation: "I can has my raw food? -please!"

For that one, yes. I basically just directly copied the source of my post from my forum, which uses BBCode rather than html. If I were to copy that post to here, you'd see the image, and then <a href=link><img src=link></a> (example) instead.

FB/Twitter have to be set up separately, this needs to go live on AC's server before I jump into that (assuming she wants it, of course).

I was thinking that about the menu bar, personally, but didn't think to change it.. That's how this particular theme was made. Fixed now. Also gave them some form of separation.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by loading large..

I've spent the day with my Ipod in one hand, a fresh beer in the other and the sun on my face so I'm gonna save my most pertinent comments for tomorrow. *grin* Offhand, though, yes, AC wants the facebook/twitter/email/save/share buttons on the posts (though unobtrusively)... I forgot to account for that in my mock-up.

More tomorrow, when I'm not quite so... mellow. *chuckle*
