This information concerns the use in cats too, so I'm cross-posting:
Before you start adding hemp oil to your dog’s meals, there’s a couple of things you should first know.
Hemp seed oil is a polyunsaturated fat, which means the oil is unstable. If you cook your dog’s food, you won’t want to add hemp seed oil to the food while cooking as this can cause the oil to become rancid and cause health issues in your dog.
In addition, if your dog is eating a poultry-based diet, adding hemp seed oil may cause an imbalance in his diet because chicken is already quite high in polyunsaturated fats and linoleic acid. According to Steve Brown, author of Unlocking the Canine Ancestral Diet, flaxseed oil is a better choice for chicken-based diets.
But if your dog is eating a diet rich in beef and other ruminants, then hemp seed oil is a great way to balance the diet, alongside your dog’s regular fish or fish oil.

There is a difference between various oils. Hemp seed oil is usually the least recommended, based on my own reading. You want hemp oils that use the whole plant, not the seeds.
I see a lot of posts about the wonders of CBD oil, and what it did for someone's pet. I did get the Charlotte's Web CBD oil and tried it on myself first. I didn't care for the side effects and sent it back, never used it for Jennie, who I bought it for.
Again, my complaint is, no one really knows what the long term effects are for this. For Jennie, long term isn't an issue as she doens't have long term. Maybe it would have been a miracle for Mazy cat, maybe not, but I just didn't feel it was safe to try. Especially with her elevated liver values.
