Lilly Is Going For Yearly Check-up...
« on: April 06, 2014, 03:46:12 PM »
...tomorrow afternoon.  She is almost 9 years old, so I will have a senior panel done this time.  I'm prettttty sure her teeth need cleaning.  If so, the pre-cleaning blood work will be done as well.
No vaccinations.  She was vaccinated and tested and such, when she first came to live with us almost 4 years ago.  She's had enough.

All paws crossed for Lilly!

She aced the physical!  :) The vet was surprised (lack of a better word), that I wanted to go ahead with having a senior panel done.  He tends to lean towards being conservative, as far as tests and such.  No problems... no tests.

I THINK what I have learned from you all is... she is 9 years old, and it should be done.  And... I would rather rule out any surprises, as much as possible.

He thinks her teeth are in fairly decent shape, but he will know more when he actually gets in there.  Her cleaning is scheduled for April 25th.

He did suggest Hills Science Diet tarter something or other carp.  *sigh*  He often talks about learning or studying this and that.  I think he may be open to reading "Your Cat."  I just have to pick the "right" words to say (in a note...I get tongue tied in person) to explain why I think he will find the book interesting/informative.

On the way home, I stopped at PetCo and got the cats live crickets for a snack.  I think one got away.  A cricket, not a cat.  :)

He didn't even MENTION vaccinations, so I didn't have to deal with that at all!  :)

Hurray!  LOL! From being told to feed Hills to live crickets! Ha Ha Ha! Now I want to know what the cats did with those crickets. I mean their reactions?  How did you give them?  In the shower, like Auntie Crazy does or what? How can you tell us you bought live crickets and not give details?  Or take video? funny2

They have had cricket snacks before.  I normally put them in the bathtub...thanks to AC's suggestion.  :)  But not everyone is interested in being in the bathtub alone or with other cats.  And some won't get OUT of the bathtub, to give others a chance.
This time, I got small crickets.  They were reallllly small.  The size of a pencil eraser.  I didn't know they would be THAT small, until after they were put in a bag for me.  It worked out though.
I put crickets in each of their bowls.  The bowls are wide and about 1/4 inch deep.  The crickets just jumped around, but not out.
Not everyone is interested in eating them.  Jenkins who eats ANYTHING...with GUSTO... hides.  Roxy prefers them as toys.  Arrows...gotta keep an eye on him, or he will eat them all.
I think it would be better to stay with the large crickets and just turn them loose.
They don't get crickets very often because 1.  I don't go to PetCo very often.  2.  Have to feed them when hubby isn't home.  The crunching sound, of live crickets, is too much for him.  :)  Although, there is a lot less crunching noise with small crickets.

Call first.  I don't think every PetCo sells crickets.

Don't y'all have bait shops? Go near any body of water around here and you'll find a bait shop with crickets & worms--beer, snacks, and bait. BOL

Dee, since fishing is big around here I suppose there must be bait shops but I wouldn't have the first idea how to find them. To be honest, that sounds like too much work for me.  If I can't just go get them easily at the new Petco (well I guess it isn't new now, it's been there about a year), the cats can live without them, I already run myself into the ground for them and their diet, LOL.
