100g, yes. Some can be fed individually, but they don't always eat up.

Is there anything like a Lysin overdose? And what about kittens?

I personally wouldn't give more than the recommended dose.  I am 99.9% sure it is also safe for kittens.  Hopefully someone with a better memory than me, will chime in.  :)
If you free feed, I am thinking you feed kibble.  Is it possible for you to mix up a dose in some wet, and feed everyone a wet snack individually?

It is also possible they will take their dose, just mixed in water.

Kibble and wet. Each cat has their preference.

Kibble and wet. Each cat has their preference.

Maybe the kibble eaters would be more likely to eat wet that contains Lysine, if it was a super stinky wet.  I normally never recommend anything fishy, because that opens up a whole new can of worms, but.... a super stinky fishy wet would likely entice a kibble addict to eat wet.  Once they get used to the wet, phase out the fish flavors.

The number of cats you have (and the high probability of URI) pretty much makes Lysine a must.  IMHO

Lysine is an essential amino acid.  Humans can't make it on their own, so they have to get it from their diet.  I don't know if that's true for cats, though.

I checked some of my books last night and didn't see anything about overdosing, but I agree with Lola that it's best to stick with the recommended dose.

Good luck!

Can lysine cause diarrhea? A few of the cars that have been regularly getting the lysine have developed diarrhea.

Of my 6, none got diarrhea.  I'm not sure how much or how you are giving it to them... that may make a difference.  ??  I give 1/8 tsp mixed up really well in wet food - twice a day.  They all get the same amount... no matter what their age or weight.

I also only give it when something is going on...sneezing, stress, etc.  Or I know something is going to happen, that will likely cause a flare-up of some sort.  No one has ever had an issue, with any of the "start-ups."

My books don't say anything about lysine causing diarrhea, FWIW.

Thanks for the answers. We are still trying to figure out what the cats had and I was reading that since the Lysine reduces the arginine in the organism, the stuff the cat herpes needs to thrive, it would make sense that our one cat was not sick as he mostly eats kibbles only and these cats have a low arginine level anyway. On the other side a cat exposed or infected with FIP needs the arginine and the Lysine would only worsen these symptoms. I am wondering how good/bad it is for an FIV cat. One of our cats is FIV positive. Since he is antisocial he has an extra space along with another buddy but from time to time could wander out under supervision. Since the virus went around I have not let him into the other area and he misses that a lot, he is a very athletic little guy but I definitely do not want him to get sick. So now I wonder if the Lysine would help or hurt him. Any info?

Hey Lola, thx for asking. They are all doing fine except Charlie. We went with him today, he has some kind of stomatitis or something. Trouble chewing, red gums on the one side, bit bloody. He got laser therapy which seemed to have make him feel better and is on antibiotics. I will be posting a pic of him with his safety goggles tomorrow on FB, he looked so cute

What are your thoughts on FIV cats and Lysine? I read that Lysine is not good for cats with FIP (I think) because the Lysine breaks down the angenine (or whatever) that the herpes virus needs to reproduce (which is why it is good in that case) but this angenine is needed for FIP cats (I think it was FIP). Anyway. I couldn't find anywhere the effects on cats with FIV so I am wondering if it will be good or bad for my FIV cat.

Did Charlie get any teeth pulled?
What is laser therapy?
I'm not sure about Lysine and FIV cats.  I'll see if I can find any info from a reliable source...
Are the other cats accepting of the Lysine?

Is Charlie the FIV kitty?  I didn't know cold laser therapy could be used for stomatitis.  That is really terrific news.

Lola laser therapy is a recent treatment for things like arthritis, surgical wound healing, I think I've even read it can help with some types of cystitis in cats.

This is the brand my vet has:

No, upon reading I would say more gingivitis. The vet had mentioned both. The laser therapy was to help the blood flow in the gums heal themselves.

Bruno Bannani has FIV. We still haven't figured out how to apply the powder but a few of the cats take to the lysine treats. Our vet actually sells them now, I can buy them wholesale but for right now we aren't regularly feeding, everyone is doing fine and I hope Charlie gets better soon.
