Does anyone else...
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:59:31 AM »
use freeze dried liver or liver powder in place of fresh? I use the liver powder from http://www.knowbetterpetfood.com/home in place of fresh liver because 1. fresh chicken liver does not always agree with Hissyfluff and 2. this is a little more convenient.

I haven't seen any posts about this anywhere so... does anyone consider this inferior to fresh and if so why?

I know a couple people who use dried liver. I'm lucky, all my girls will eat fresh and have no trouble with it. :)

What kind of problem does Hissyfluff have with it? I have seen it advised for people to feed the liver in smaller increments spread out more, and never on it's own as a meal,  if a cat is having trouble with it.

My cats are only partial PMR. One gets .1 (one tenth ounce) of liver with her one ounce of muscle meat, and the other two get .05 (half of one tenth ounce) with their half ounce of muscle meat, daily. The rest of their raw is commercial. (Rad Cat)

Liver is so cheap, so I am glad my cats will, and can, eat it.  I cut it up into .1 (one tenth ounce) pieces, freeze them in ice cube trays, then bag them in freezer bags.

Sorry, never used powdered liver.
Are you able to get different sources? pork liver, or beef?

Also, what MC said.  Small amounts of liver per meal seems to work best.

you can get beef or chicken from another company. Beef is more common.
