There are more formulas, I just grabbed the info from the first two I looked at on their site.
http://usa.farmina.com/?q=content/line/nd-grain-free-canine

Farmina is an Italian company, and Italian standards for pet food put US standards to shame. Their foods are GMO free and they use dehydrated meats instead of meat meals, so you know for a fact that you are not getting primarily bones and skin. All meats and vegetables used are human grade, the EU equivalent to USDA inspected and approved. They also took the Pledge to Quality and Origin and are on Susan Thixton's list of approved pet food companies. When I contacted them for more information about their food, they responded within 24 hours and were more than happy to give me a chart of the calcium levels in their foods, both as mg per kg and as a percentage.

Farmina is now available at Chewy.com, and I will be trying it out on River as soon as the bag of Orijen is gone. Surprisingly, it is also a bit cheaper than Orijen, for now.

I do have to wonder why they're putting sweeteners in it? = fructooligosaccharide I like the fruits in it, but I'm not so sure why they'd put in added sweeteners?

I don't think there is a perfect commercial food.  Gotta pick the one with the best reputation and least amount of "ew."

I asked about the Fructooliosaccharide too. It is a prebiotic and provides a bit of fiber.

But no, I agree that there is no perfect commercial food. I am not crazy about the potatoes in it; I would prefer something like chick peas or lentils, but since this is human grade and signed the Pledge and Orijen is not and has not (and I found out that Orijen is no longer family owned, and we know what happens to foods when they sell out) I am going to try her out on it. It isn't like this is the only thing she is eating, I try to make sure she gets some canned food and some real food every day.

I don't think there's a perfect, processed food either. Which is why I was so disappointed in Barkly's choices of foods he would actually eat so that we could have emergency food. I disliked the ones he liked more than others--especially with tapioca being in Nature's Variety Instinct. Tapioca makes a great starch, because that's exactly what it is. There's no protein in it at all like other choices for binding the food together in kibble. But at least that way I knew they weren't getting their protein from something like green pea flour either.

I'm glad to hear they have a reason for putting it in other than just sweetening things. Don't get me wrong. The boys get sweet things, but it's very limited, and I only use honey or maple syrup when I DO make them--like their carob treats that I make for holidays. They'll both grab a carob cookie over a bully stick if given a choice too. So I'd expect River to like that food a lot better than others.

It's a chart for gluten free people, but if you ever want to know the differences in flours that pet food companies use, here's a chart. I don't know why they ignored green pea flour that's 4 grams of protein per 1.5 tablespoons. The information for each flour is based on 1/4 cup of flour:

Thanks for the chart. If I ever have the time to start working on that site again, do you mind if I use it? (If you didn't make it, can you give me your source?)

I got it from here: http://ggiswheatfree.wordpress.com/2012/06/13/so-many-flours-so-little-cupboard-space-how-gluten-free-flours-compare-for-carbs-and-protein-content/

I meant to give the link to it earlier and forgot.

But the information about the green pea flour was taken off the back of a bag of Bob's Red Mill Green Pea Flour.
