Bird Food
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:56:01 PM »
I was trying to figure out what type of bird feed to get for the summer.  I noticed that there are "complete and balanced" bird foods - are they worth it or not?  I can see the point, but then, they never would eat "complete and balanced" foods.  Their birds, they eat what they find.

What's your opinion?  Is something like that worth it - or another marketing gimmick?

I do offer a variety of foods to begin with:

-one hanging feeder with sunflower chips (just the inside "meaty" part of sunflower seeds)

-one hanging feeder with a mixture of nuts (peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds, etc) that are meant for squirrel food - not salted and are raw

-a feeder that is set on the bench with a mixture of white proso millet/black sunflower/safflower seeds/peanuts/raisins/dried cherries

-suet feeder with homemade suet (a batch is one lb lard, five-six pounds blueberries, blackberries, pears, and apples, and ~6 slices whole grain bread)
