What are the possible reasons that a cat would be projectile vomiting?

Is it vomit or regurgitation?  I only ask because sometimes Pookie will regurgitate (less than 30 minutes after eating) and it can be pretty forceful.

Either way, it could be something the cat ate disagreed with them or they can't tolerate it.  I could be wrong, but I'm thinking it's also possible there's something in their system (like poison, string or something) that they're trying to purge and can't.  There are probably other reasons but I can't think of them at the moment.

How often is it happening?  Is the cat otherwise behaving normally?  I just did a quick Google and found this:  http://www.vetinfo.com/how-serious-are-cat-vomiting-symptoms.html

Sending purrs things get better very soon.  But if it keeps happening, I suggest getting the cat to a vet asap.

Gas.  Narrow esophagus. I think there's more but I don't remember where I read about it, so I'll have to do some hunting, it's been a few years.  Mazy cat had projectile vomiting with her first $400 hair ball when she was about 18 months old.  The fur had lodged where the stomach empties into the intestines and her stomach had filled with gas.  Every time she tried to eat it would come back up...shooting almost across the room. X rays showed a belly full of gas.

The last time my cats projectile vomited, was when they got that bad food a few years ago. :(

I was just thinking back...trying to figure out some things concerning Roxy.  She used to projectile vomit...years ago...when she first joined the family.
