Won't hear the Mediots mention this, but Costa is owned by Carnival Corp; this ship is sister to the Splendor.

Police in Italy are investigating the sinking of a luxury cruise ship off the country's west coast, in which at least three people were killed.
The captain of the Costa Concordia, which ran aground late on Friday, has been detained for questioning.
Most of the 4,000 people on board left by lifeboats, but some swam ashore.
About 40 are still unaccounted for. Late on Saturday, two people were found alive trapped several decks below on the half-submerged vessel.
Rescuers have reached a man and a woman stranded in a cabin two decks down on the half-submerged ship, according to Italian media reports.
Meanwhile, divers are continuing to comb submerged parts of the ship, which is lying on its side close to a coastal island.
The vessel, which is operated by Costa Cruises, had sailed from Civitavecchia near Rome on Friday on a regular weekly Mediterranean cruise when it ran aground.

The Costa Concordia, a large cruise ship based in Italy but belonging to Costa Cruises, a cruise line in the Carnival Corp. Family, apparently struck ground near a tiny island named Giglio off the coast of Italy. The ship had just loaded a new contingent of passengers in Savona, near the city of Genoa on the West coast of Italy.

Passengers reported that the ship jolted suddenly while they were eating dinner. The captain came on the public address system to tell the passengers and crew that the ship had experienced an electrical fault, however witnesses quoted in European newspapers said it was obvious that the ship had hit something. They said they felt a sudden jolt quickly followed by a large banging sound.

"and crew that the ship had experienced an electrical fault, however witnesses quoted in European newspapers said it was obvious that the ship had hit something. They said they felt a sudden jolt quickly followed by a large banging sound.""

The mediots assume it's more dramatic telling it that way -- that they just hit something which caused it.

On cruisemates, they were discussing how the most realistic scenario would be electric going out, no navigation equipment working, which is really the only way a vessel with such sophisticated technology could be put in that position to begin with  Doh1 (unless the captains were in comas or drunk stupors, which is doubtful.)

I read the entire article, plus the "Analysis" off to the side of the article.
As far as "news," I try to never assume anything...as far as details of a story.
The reporting of just facts...days gone by.
