Roxy Update
« on: August 26, 2015, 02:22:48 PM »
Somewhere around here are threads or mentions of Roxy spitting up and/or barfing frequently.

For those that don't know Roxy's background...

We got Roxy when she was around two years old.  She is now 7.  She was a kibble fed cat before joining our family.  She was transitioned to an all wet (canned) diet right away.

When I fed canned foods, she barfed foods that contained beef.  That protein was removed from the rotation.  The barfing slowed down quite a bit.

We originally fed two meals a day.  She would spit up between meals, so I added a third meal.  That reduced the spitting up occasions even further.

I was always making changes... according to the barf triggers.

Eventually it was recommended that I give her an antacid.  For the most part, the spitting up and/or barfing stopped ALMOST completely. However, I wasn't too thrilled with her taking an antacid daily.  I wanted to fix the problem (if possible), not put a band-aid on it.

We eventually went from feeding an all canned diet to a canned and raw diet.  Last year-ish we went completely raw.  I stopped giving her an antacid sometime later.

I am happy to report....It has been a VERY VERY VERY long time since Roxy has barfed or spit up.

Was an all raw diet her fix.  I think so.

I had been holding off posting the above... for good reason apparently.  She barfed up dehydrated raw today. She has it eaten before, with no issues.  Sigh...

I'm not posting about her ever again!

That happens here too.  Mazy went 12 days.  I posted about it, yep, up it came.  For Mazy cat though it is inevitable I think.  12 days in shedding season is incredible for her.

Roxy..a one off, it's gotta be.

My next guess is that only "real" raw will fix her.  I may just have to go back to that for a few months to find out.  I am not comfortable feeding from one source though.  Hmmmmm. I will figure something out.

Roxy's issues seem to be on a much smaller scale than your Mazy.  Hairballs for one.  Roxy has always passed them out the back end.  I think she also was kibble fed for a shorter time. ??

Dehydrated raw as in all dehydrated meat, or as in a dehydrated mix of meat and more ingredients like vegetables?

Different brands have different additions.

Then I think I'd make sure nothing went into her but meat and supplements for a while to see.

Yeah that is where the real raw comes in.  :)

That's still really good, though, that it's a rare occurrence for her these days (knock on wood).   thumbsup1
