Hey Lola hope this didn't come across as snarky.  I know you saw the posts at the time, and must have just forgotten.  I have a brain like a sieve, so don't expect other people to remember either, but it did strike as funny because I whined so much and for so long not only about going to Win10, but about the photo gallery issue.   I am sure you all must have been very tired of it all

That win8.1 photo program was such a nightmare and I am so happy to have photo gallery back I celebrate over it every single day!.

Not snarky.  I was confused... no surprise.  I "read" more recent posts as you trying to stop Windows 10 from installing.  My mistake.

Windows 10 upgrade just cost Microsoft $10,000

A lawsuit over an unwanted Windows 10 upgrade just cost Microsoft $10,000
Microsoft recently paid a (very small) price for its Windows 10 upgrade tactics, and that was before they became increasingly aggressive.

THIS guy is funny!

Quote
I was basically held hostage to the upgrade...
The downloaded started by itself and I stopped it.
I had half a download, which stopped all updates to WinWoes 7 - on two machines... ?? not quite sure how they did that...?

Anyway... I had to complete the download and install it to get things moving again... and, that was pretty much a clusterfuk too....

The machine's screen saver kicked in stopping the overnight process...
Eventually, the machine "did" fully digest WinWoes 10... which is no big improvement... nor, that much of a detriment.
It's what most people would call a non-event....

My desktop was - oddly enough - the same... from what I could tell - other than a few minor tweaks to the loser-interface, it was benign...

Until,,, - and, with MicroSloth WinWoes that is always cause to worry... the next tweak.... Seems that the WinWoes 10 upgrade isn't a destination - but, a mere stepping stone.  There is the ubiquitous service pak... (they don't call it that) - but, there is yet another WinWoes 10 dump...
and,
For me, there was a graphics card driver update....
That's what pooched the desktop... - yep... all the icons were still there - randomly shoved up into the upper left hand corner...

On the upside;
There was no blue screen of death.
There was no bricking.
There was no data lost... that I know of.
The stuff - more or less - still works... How can one tell? Psychotic systemic anomalies could be errors, viruses, - or, nominal bloat code symptoms.

On the downside;
I have to re-organize the desktop once again,
and,
I have to check all the apps.
Then there is the obligatory - WinWoes 10 upgrade of all the apps... in order to get around all the anomalous psychosis of running WinWoes 7 versions in WinWoes 10.

God - it just never ends with MicroSloth.

Plus,,, none of this was "my" idea.
It's all so that MicroSloth can back door my machine for alphabet agencies - FBI, CIA, NSA, TSA, DHS... which - if they have it - then N. Korea has it along with Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, China, Russia and all of the Crap-istans.

So, now - everyone can get to my stuff - without a warrant - except for me - if I forget my loser name and cussword.

All I can say is that it was worth every penny that "I" paid for it....
Remember, free stuff is never free.
Some how, some way, this is benefiting some one else a lot more than it is benefiting me.

There is one thing about these articles that irritates me. No one speaks of using a restore point to get rid of it if you're forced to download it and don't want it; AND, no one tells about right-click-hide-update.

I've got Windows 7 Professional, and I've seen that Win10 update exactly once. Now why more of these "specialists" don't tell about that "hide" confuses me. I guess according to the comments after so many articles, they want to keep the users needing "them" instead of teaching them to properly use a computer. "I've installed it on blah, blah, blah machines." Which tells me that someone else wasn't able to install it themselves because they haven't been properly taught about what all a computer can do, and that "specialist" wanted to keep them that way--dependent.

This world is so full of deceptive companies and deceptive people in general. Just disgusts me. Helping people because it was the right thing to do went right out the windows long ago. Observing the masses online is just depressing a lot of the time.

Since I turned off automatic updates I get these notices for updates, but I can't tell what they are for.  Next time I'll take a screen shot maybe Dee can help me.  However as far as Win10 updates, those run automatically in spite of the fact that I turned off automatic updates.

Meaning when I shut down the computer I am given two choices :

Update and Shut Down

or

Update and Restart

There is no other choice when shutting down the computer, if Win10 has an update.

I don't care though, it's like the presidential circus.  Nothing I think or want will affect the outcome, so why even bother thinking about it.

I have photo gallery back and that is what matters most to me.

Okay. Do you use wi-fi?

Personal problems with Daddy going on right now. Not sure if will be on much this weekend to answer any questions when you're not busy, MC. So here are 2 links with different ways to block things from auto-download. This first one is easier, and why I asked you if you were on Wi-Fi, but it still has a link to a tool that will help whether you're on wi-fi or not. The link is within this quote:

Quote
http://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent-windows-10-from-automatically-downloading-updates/

If Windows 10 insists on installing a specific update or driver that’s causing problems, you can prevent Windows Update from installing that particular update. Microsoft doesn’t provide a built-in way to block updates and drivers from automatically being downloaded, but it does offer a downloadable tool that can block updates and drivers so Windows won’t download them. This gives you a way to opt out of specific updates — uninstall them and “hide” them from being installed until you unhide them.

This is the other link with suggestions on how if you can't do any of that, but it also suggests that tool:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/08/26/windows-10-how-to-stop-forced-updates/#15403c485d1f

Page 2 is where they talk about that tool:

The Show/Hide Tool

Strangely the so-called ‘Show/Hide Tool’ is not part of Windows 10 nor can it be found through Windows Update. Instead it can be downloaded from Microsoft here.

Unlike the three options above, the Show/Hide Tool is not proactive so it doesn’t stop any automatic updates from downloading and installing. Instead it allows you to ‘Hide’ an update from Windows 10 so if you uninstall it Windows Update will not try to reinstall it automatically.

This is very useful if a particular update is causing your system problems. Then again the Show/Hide Tool doesn’t work with Priority Updates.

If you need more help, I'll get back when I can, or maybe Brandon will be around and he can help a lot. Amber could too, but never see her on here anymore.

Thanks Dee.  I don't really care that Win10 updates automatically.  I've already turned all that stuff to off twice, it doesn't make any difference, Windows10 continues to update. I've lost the will to care haha

It's the other update notices I am getting that I don't know what they are.

Here's an example of the kind of update notices I am getting, almost daily.

PS  Lots of hugs and vibes going out to you hope things get better. xxxxx grouphug grouphug grouphug

Last fall, I discussed the keylogger that Microsoft openly put into the Windows 10 Technical Preview. The company admitted that “we may collect voice information” and “typed characters.” At the time I defended Microsoft, pointing out that the Preview was “intended for testing, not day-to-day use,” and that Microsoft recommended against installing the Preview on a computer with sensitive files. I said that “I seriously doubt that the worst spyware features will remain in the finished product.”

I was wrong.
