They will drink less water, because they are getting moisture from their food.  Kibble fed cats are always dehydrated to some extent.
I always added water to canned food.
Mannnnny years ago, we put the cats' plates on placemats.  When our Angel Lucky wasn't fond of a meal, she would eat a little... and then cover up the rest with her placemat.  That just cracked us up!

It is working - SO's mustache rivals the one of Sam Elliot and the furries accepted Fancy Feast Classic chicken Pate. The Aunties started nibbling on plain poached chicken. Izzi turns up her nose at it. It is hilarious to watch when she does not like food. A couple of very decisive strokes around the plate as if burying it. Her chatter tshack-tshack means not that, not that, She actually rolled a full plate into a small area rug. Stinker!

They are drinking less since they have been on canned only. Time to add a bit of warm water to their food? I am open to suggestions.

Great job!  bananamiddlechild

Yes they will drink less, or not at all, on a wet diet.  You can add a little warm water to their wet food. Start with just a small amount. Most seem to like it that way, but if anyone doesn't she will still be properly hydrated on the wet diet.

Queen Eva doesn't like a watery meal.  Jennie and Mazy cat don't mind./

Keep the waterbowl clean and fresh anyway of course. :)

What Lola (except for the placemats  Silly7) and MC said:  they'll drink less on canned food because canned has a higher moisture content.  This is a good thing!  Cats evolved getting their moisture from their prey.  You can add water to the food if you like, it's up to you.  Like MC said, they'll let you know if they don't like it that way.  And yes, always keep clean, fresh water available.

Congratulations on the progress!   thumbsup1

Thank you ladies! I will try adding a bit of water with dinner. SO is already working a side gig as short order cook at 5:30 serving firsts as it is called in Hobbit Land to four females.

Place mats
Printed with bottle of wine, grapes and bread

Food preferences
No reason to make it easy on the can openers. What is important is the moment so open another can!
