Congress is mulling over a new bill that would require veterinarians to write prescriptions if the pet requires medication.

U.S. Sens. Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York and Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, introduced the bill as the Fairness to Pet Owners Act saying that the bill will save American pet owners $63 million per year if they’re allowed to shop around for their pet’s medicines.

"Pet owners will do almost anything to care for their fury or feathered members but it often breaks the bank," Schumer said at a news conference on Sunday outside a dog park in Washington Square Park in New York City.

"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." Edward Hoagland
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have a dog."
