Feeling blue
« on: January 03, 2012, 06:52:26 PM »

My girlfriend had to take one of her dogs to the rainbow bridge today.

This was a dog that I've known since they brought her and her sister home from the shelter as pups 10 years ago.
Last Friday, she collapsed from a bulging disk that paralyzed her back legs.
After 3 full days of muscle relaxants and steroids, she did not recover.

Rather than prolong her suffering, they made the heartbreaking decision to let her go.
I sat with them this afternoon, as they said their last good-byes;

Remembering the hikes, the puppy sittings, the dinners with puppies underfoot...
I'm feeling kinda blue.

Oh I'm so sorry your friend is going through this.  I'm  sure it hurts as much as if the dog was yours. They did well by, not making her linger and suffer.

It does.

Maybe I'm an oddball, but I can't help treating my longtime friends like family... including their pets.
We went on a lot of hikes with Cheyenne and Sierra, and they were always good for me when I sat for them.

On the trail:

Cheyenne:

Sisters:

Cheyenne was the alpha, and Sierra is the "moody" one.
I worry 'bout Sierra now that Cheyenne is gone... especially with a new baby in the house.

Aw, Cheyenne and Sierra are beauties.   :-* When you mentioned sisters, I was wondering about the other...  Difficult loss for ALL.
