Title: Anyone Watch Cher On DWTS?
Post by: Lola on November 06, 2013, 03:46:22 PM
I caught Monday's show online last night.  Wanted to see Cher.  She doesn't "fly" around the stage so much anymore... understandably.  She wore some pretty high heels though.  I would have been flat on my face... walking or standing in them.  lol
I thought she still sounded good... different, but good.

I heard her on The Voice last season. She sounded good still, but I really didn't like the song that much because the music itself seemed to drown her out a bit.

EDIT: Is the performance you're talking about?

What's wrong with her face? She doesn't even look like herself any more.  Reminds me of Michael Jackson somehow. And her movements are..weird. I guess I'm just thinking of her as a twenty something still, not ..what..70?

I just got around to looking at the whole video. Those heels are deceptive. They're platforms. Her toes aren't pointed toward the ground. I can tell you for a fact that they're not really like walking in heels. I have to look for platforms if I want some height because of my hip replacement.

Well think of Joan Rivers and Dolly Parton. After so many "procedures," you begin to look a bit plastic and no longer quite so fantastic.

Any chance you looked (without clicking the video) just at her face, in the second video "screen shot?"  'Cuz it does look weird there.  lol  Either way, she does look a bit different from when she was 20.  Personally, I think she looks GREAT.  If I had her money and the name of her doctor…  :)
I think her movements seem weird because of the shoes.  I don't know too many 67 year olds that would be comfortable in heels… except Tina Turner.  :)

I can't see her shoes that well.  There are heels that are also platforms though…for those that want to be reallllllly tall.  lol  They are called platform pumps.  It took me a while to get used to Sketchers Shape Ups.  Speaking of Shape Ups, they helped me a LOT with back pain, due to being on my feet so much.

As far as a total hip replacement… one leg ending up shorter, isn't a given.

Joan Rivers looks Asian.  Her and Kenny Rogers are two (off the top of my head) that ended up almost unrecognizable.  Their faces are wrinkle free though!  :)

Well in my case, it was. Or something makes it hurt and throw me off balance if I put on heels over an inch tall.

I hate short-heeled shoes. I had a closet full of 4-5 inch spikes.  :'(  I hate feeling short around the men in the family. Not all platforms work either.

I've got some shape-ups too. They don't seem to bother me, and I like the fact that they give me some more height around taller people like my husband & sons.

Ohhh you already had the hip replacement done…. thought you meant you were going to.

In my younger days, I loved being tall and wearing platforms.  When platforms were in style the first time.  lol   I am 5'8"… not unusual tall… but it was when I was in the 5th grade!   ;D

LOL, yes already had it done when I was 37. I started having problems with that hip when I was 17. It's the knees I'm thinking about now. At least my right knee. But I really don't want to feel that kind of pain again. I've been told they do it differently now, but still. I'm wary.

I watched both videos.  Then I followed the you tube links and watched old videos of her. My memory serves me well, her movements are completely different from the way she used to move. She had that way of ..swaying..on stage, you know?  I always thought of that as a trademark of hers. Could be the shoes, could be age, who knows.  I don't really care for that plastic look she has now.  But who cares what I think, she can look and move anyway she wants to,  of course, LOL. Sounds like her voice is pretty much gone, but still, got to give her credit for rocking on.

I've always felt like such a giant at 5'5" and wished I was petite like my mother and one of my sisters. I've never worn heels, not just because of that but because I wear shoes for comfort. My sister insisted we wear high heels in her wedding so I bought a pair of cheap ones, the heels were 1 1/2 inches I think, that was as high as I was willing to go.  When i wore them with the dresses she chose for us (tea length Laura Ashely, with a flared skirt) I saw why women wear them, they did make my legs look pretty.  But...UGH, I couldn't wait to take them off, both the dress and the shoes.

I can't stand being dressed up.  Thank goodness where I work now is not a dressy place. In fact I am the only woman in the whole building who even wears skirts. My skirts are not dressy.

My 83 year old friend just had a complete hip replacement and sailed through it.  Uncle too.. same age.  I have no idea how similar knee replacement is though.

I'm thinking how one views Cher depends on how much one likes her.  lol
I agree she sways less.  I gave her an "out," due to age and shoes.
I thought her voice was different, but still great.
She is touring again, if you want to catch her in person next year.

I saw Neil Diamond (a while ago)… he spoke and hummed his songs.  Sooooo, I may think anything other than that... is good.  :)

IMO, a lot of singers need to just retire. Just because they used to be good doesn't mean they're good any longer. Paul McCartney being one of them along with Neil Diamond. They get up there "singing" and ruin their own beloved songs.

I don't go to concerts any more (can't stand the crowds and noise) but my sister asked me to go to Neil Young with her and her family at SPAC this summer.  I think she was really surprised when I said no, I never missed a Neil Young concert before!  It was the second week of my new job though and I needed to rest, not drive two hours, spend however long at a concert, then drive two hours home, not getting home until 2 a.m. or so.

I've seen him so many times, and he's always been incredible, but...he's old, post stroke, and while I'm a little curious about how he would sound...I'm not sure ..I know a lot of people like to see these oldies on stage, but..I guess I'll just keep my memories of the way they were when I saw them in their prime and leave it at that. :)

Be curious no more, but he doesn't get lip-syncing at all:

You can hear his actual voice here the best:

BOL! I'm so distracted lately. Trying to learn how to cook again; how to use a new camera; making Christmas scarves. I don't know if I'm coming or going.

Neil Young wasn't THAT bad in September. He had a few bad notes, but overall it wasn't truly bad. He has my permission to keep on singing.  :D

Yep that's the concert I missed.  I've seen him at SPAC quite few times so I don't feel TOO bad abut missing it. Thank you for that though Dee, the link brought up some more I can watch too from that show.  My computer doesn't have the greatest sound but I just LOVE watching him.  Gawd, he's so freaking amazing.

Great speech, too, did you watch it?  He talks about the disaster our food supply is now all grwon with chemicals. He never stops fascinating me.

I have an old tape I recorded  off the radio once when he was interviewed on...what is the name of that old show...Rock Line? People call in and ask the performer questions?  I have the tape, I kept it even when I through most of my old cassettes out.  Anyway, someone called in and asked Neil who he thought the best guitarist of all time was.  Neil said "Well...it's me and Hendrix....".  I love that.

I have much respect for artists that keep up with the most important things in our lives while they continue to dream along and create. He's right though. I think all the extra junk in our food chains is what's causing so many food allergies--like me. What's even more upsetting is when you see kids like this: http://foreverhomewanted.com/2013/11/05/help-from-an-allergy-sniffing-dog/

People used to not be this sick before all these pesticides, GMOs, and additives. No matter how much some of us scream about it being everywhere in the food chain, it usually doesn't get a lot of attention until big names pay attention and join in.

I discovered the difference between GMO and non GMO when I switched my popcorn from Orville Rednbacher (they "believe in GMO") to a non GMO brand..  Thought there was a difference...but wasn't sure until one time I bought some of my old brand.  Many was I SICK after eating that!  I brought it back to the store.  Huge difference.  Gah.

Well I'm trying my best to find non-GMO everything that I have left to eat. I don't need any more allergies or I'll end up on some weird liquid diet as my only choice.

I know I'm spamming this thread but...here's my man in 1971. And Johnny Cash, too (I grew up listening to Johnny Cash, I mean from when I was LITTLE)

And Johnny Cash, too (I grew up listening to Johnny Cash, I mean from when I was LITTLE)

Now that was beautiful. Johnny Cash, Daddy would turn the radio every time he came on. Daddy really showed huge disdain for druggies. I guess because he saw more than one of his students throughout the years be killed by them in one way or another. Daddy had very little tolerance for a lot of things. He's lightened up a bit over the years, but only about a few things. It sucked being the principal's daughter and the daughter of a layspeaker for the UMC too. :D If he objected to me hanging with someone, I always knew it was something like drugs that made him take that stance. Now if mom knew someone's name, it was NEVER good. She was a RN for the Public Health Department of the State of TN. Yeah. I figured out what it meant if she didn't like someone when I was about fourteen.

Johnny Cash is one that lost a lot of his voice too. I've always thought that the ones that lost their voices had it caused by smoking and drugs. Stevie Nicks is losing her voice too. :(

I like the Nine Inch Nails cover of "Hurt" a lot better than hearing JC sing it.

Saw The Highway Men mannnnnnnny years ago.  Awesome show.  Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings.  Willie has looked 80 most of his life.  lol
