Google Self-Driving Car Project
« on: April 08, 2016, 03:03:48 PM »
Quote
Imagine if everyone could get around easily and safely, regardless of their ability to drive.

Aging or visually impaired loved ones wouldn't have to give up their independence. Time spent commuting could be time spent doing what you want to do. Deaths from traffic accidents—over 1.2 million worldwide every year—could be reduced dramatically, especially since 94% of accidents in the U.S. involve human error.

We’ve self-driven more than 1.5 million miles and are currently out on the streets of Mountain View, CA, Austin, TX, Kirkland, WA and Metro Phoenix, AZ.

That was my first thought, Brandon. Drones to fly and deliver things = less higher paid pilot jobs. Road-drones = less truck drivers.  Tesla even has a car now that drives itself on auto-drive. States and the federal government better be watching over this. Less of all of the things after the = signs means less tax money. They're even talking about having Uber rides without drivers.

In my last job (Administrative Assistant), they rolled out an app for managers to book their own travel and do their own expenses.  Which was great for me, as it meant I had more time for the 5000+ other projects that were tossed my way, but . . . I did also recognize that there might come a day when the "secretary" role disappeared.  In some ways, it already has -- only high level managers seem to have them, now, and they do a lot more "non-secretarial" things than they used to.  Yeah, "there's an app for that."
