Darwin's Raw
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:46:08 PM »
Thoughts?

It is supposed to be complete and balanced.  I don't see any numbers as far as bone, meat, and organ ratios.  They have cat and dog raw food.

I know a lot of people that feed it to their dogs and love the results.

As far as the cat formula goes, it says 10% organ meat and the last paragraph says they add bone meal, so I'm pretty sure they have the right amount of that:

It seems they have only chicken and turkey for cats though.

Bumping this for MC.

Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they have nutritional requirements that can only be met with a diet based almost entirely on animal tissue. This is why our Natural Selections™ cat food is 100% real meat and contains no animal by-products or fillers.
This gluten-free, wheat-free meal provides complete and balanced nutrition, and helps to ensure your cat lives a long and healthy life. All the meat that go into Darwin’s Natural Selections™ were raised cage free and are free of GMO’s, steroids or artificial hormones.

Maybe it is just me, but their website and way of ordering seems to be very user and customer UNfriendly.

I had to enter the weight of all my furkids for them to decide how much I should order.   They want to send enough food to feed a furkid for a week.  Adjustments to their recommendations can be made.  I used a lot of brain cells figuring out how to get around their system so I could order the amount I want to feed... in rotation with other brands.   Silly7

A buyer HAS to choose an auto ship preference.  That can be changed as well.

The buyer is forced to accept their Intro Offer of a 10 lb variety pack.  Only AFTER the Into Offer is received, will the auto-ship order be sent.

On the up-side, their packing and shipping is comparable to others.  :)

Tabitha Thompson DVM CVA writes review of Darwin's raw.

As a homeopathic veterinarian, I constantly preach the importance of minimizing our pet’s exposure to chemicals and toxins in their food. One choice for feeding a whole foods diet is to use raw meats with small amounts of produce included. Today, there are many commercially made products available.

Darwin’s has several product lines, two general consumer products and one a veterinary prescription food. The standard food lines are called “Zoo Logics” and “Natural Selections.” I have the most experience with the Natural Selections line which contains organic produce and grass-fed meats.

For a great, convenient holistic dog food, I recommend you try Darwin’s. It pretty much eliminates lack of time/inconvenience excuse for not feeding a high quality, fresh meal to your dog.

Should I be concerned that there's a "veterinary prescription food?"
