Bownman Zoo in Ontario plans to declaw their lion cubs...
« on: September 29, 2014, 06:20:57 PM »
The Paw Project is asking people to tweet, or comment on the zoo's website, or any other way you can, asking them to spare these poor babies a life time of pain and suffering and crippling.

I've sent out a couple of tweets and will continue to remind people at regular intervals.

That place needs to quit exploiting its animals. I've read some of the things they've done with their charges on their own FB page. Disgusting!
"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." Edward Hoagland
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have a dog."

Did you see this in response to the information:

Aphrodite that they were tweeting to:

But that tweet makes it sound to me as if they're serial-amputation-ers

Last week we rallied against PETA for not listening to the people. It would be total hypocrisy on our part not to follow our own advice. As a consequence the policy of declawing the cats at Bowmanville Zoo, which was always in place for the animals' safety, will be discontinued. We will continue to move forward with innovative and appropriate management techniques to ensure that our animals' welfare is always paramount at Bowmanville Zoo.

To be clear, we will not be declawing any of the cubs or any other cat. Instead, we will implement new handling protocols that keep clawed big cats away from other big cats (clawed or not).

We deeply care about our animals and we respect the opinions of all people.

As a gesture of good will, the zoo plans to donate a portion of its proceeds from this weekend’s ticket sales to the Paw Project, a group dedicated to ending declawing.

I hope the news is the truth.  Not to be a putz.  I find it REALLY hard to believe the zoo changed their stance so quickly.
