Feeding "Chunks" For Dental Health

Even if you do not make your own cat food, you can still address your cat's dental health by offering them chunks of meat to chew on. Even better than meat chunks are gizzards which are very fibrous/tough to chew on. Keep in mind that plain meat (no bone or other source of calcium) is a very dangerously UNbalanced diet so limit the chunks/gizzards to about 1 ounce per day. You can mix the chunks into canned food or feed separately. See the Dental Health section at http://www.catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood

While that's helpful for surface cleaning, I still think the key is the balance of also feeding bone or some other calcium/mineral source.  I sometimes get nervous that people think just feeding chunks is the answer, so I was glad to see the note about keeping the diet balanced.

I found the info helpful, because I feed ground raw.  I really wanted to start giving them something on a regular basis, to help out their teeth.  I've fed gizzards before...  hit and miss, because I wasn't sure how much or how often.
