Do Cats Ever "Just" Feel Under The Weather?
« on: May 09, 2014, 04:48:44 PM »
Yesterday, Roxy and Lilly both skipped breakfast and showed little interest in lunch and dinner.  This morning... the same.  However, I was able to coax them to eat.  They both ate a decent amount  This is not the norm for either of them!

Myself and hubby can't think of ANYTHING that Lilly and Roxy have in common...that would cause any issues.
The food rotation brands and/or flavors haven't changed. They don't hang out with each other.  They don't hang out in the same areas of the house.  They don't have common friends.  Lilly is twice the age of Roxy.  They don't have any of the same habits either.  Nothing odd is showing up in the litter boxes.

We have had a house guest this week, but she is pretty quiet.  No smelly perfumes or anything.  She also doesn't make any moves first... meaning if a cat comes to her, she pets him or her.  But she doesn't go to them.  She isn't staying in "their" room.  She doesn't eat their food.  ;)  Edited:  This house guest lived here... with them... for a few years.  She isn't (technically) a stranger.

The ONLY thing (that I can think of) is that neither Roxy or Lilly are ones to welcome strangers.  Could they be upset with a house guest?  Neither of them hide from her...and she has been here since Sunday.  This all started Thursday.

Jenkins, however...is marking off the days until her departure.   He absolutely doesn't like visitors (he hides)...but he still eats (under the table...not in clear view.)!

By the way, the house guest will be gone for two days.  She returns Sunday.  If all is well, in the next two days, should I ASSuMe....  ?

Any kind of disruption of a routine can upset a cat.  I'm betting it's the house guest.  Doesn't matter what she smells like (and they can smell her differences even if you can't) or how quiet she is. She is something different. And of course different cats react to stress in different ways. HeadButt

I just mentioned her smell because... meaning the cats aren't sick from being over powered by perfume or something.

Lunch was a success!!!  :)

We had only two cats for many years.  NOTHING weird, like this, ever went on.

Well the more cats you have, the more the chances are you will see a reaction. :) I'm glad they ate, I'm sure they will be fine.

That's true... more cats, more experiences.  Imagine the fun with about 30!  lol

All are good eaters, so when one (or two, in this instance) don't want to eat...  it gets my attention.  Roxy missed 3 meals... almost.

Roxy didn't eat dinner last night, but she ate breakfast this morning.  Normally, if she goes longer than 8 hours between meals, she regurgitates bile.  She didn't...or I haven't found it yet.
It is just odd.  Her and Lilly seem to have something on their minds... if that makes any sense.

Yup.  House guest left and all the cats went back to being themselves.  That particular guest, used to visit every Sunday, when she lived in town...but she didn't stay the night.  Apparently, short visits only are allowed.  lol

Guess me being a creature of habit and preferring routine... rubbed off on the cats!

That's a cat...creature of habit and routine.  And lots of people are like that too.  Including myself. Fortunately my apartment is too small to have house guests.  I had nieces and nephews when they were younger but none of them want to come any more.  There's njot much privacy for them here, and teenagers like privacy.
