Dr. Jeff--Rocky Mountain Vet
« on: May 14, 2016, 11:45:08 PM »
Watching the show tonight, and they were sedating some lionesses from a rescue for health checkups and their 2-year, birth-control inserts. She was doing general, overall checks of their bodies too, and when looking over one of the lioness's paws, she said that she had been declawed on her front paws.

One of the caretakers said that they'd come from a circus in Bolivia. I felt so sorry for them. At least they're as free as possible now, but they'll never be able to be truly free when they can't really protect themselves.   bangshead bangshead bangshead

I read an article somewhere not long ago about circus cats and zoo cats all being declawed.  There is a vet that has been going around fixing them... as much as they can be fixed.  I think the article was posted here.  Anyone remember?

Well I think it was Dr Jennifer Conrad who started repairing big cat paws. She's the founder of The Paw Project. http://www.pawproject.org/

he Paw Project facilitates reparative surgery for cats that have been declawed. Thanks to our generous donors since April 2000, veterinarians working with The Paw Project have performed reparative surgery on lions, tigers, cougars, leopards, jaguars and domestic cats that had been maimed by declawing. The results have been dramatic. Enjoying relief for the first time after years of suffering, cats that could hobble only a few agonizing steps before surgery, now are able to leap, run and play much more as Nature intended.

There is a facebook page now for the work vets are doing with paw repair:

Zoos, people who think it's fun to own "exotic" animals, people who rent these animals to movie people, circuses.....it's against the law now, in the US anyway.  Yes, people and vets are just disgusting.
