Title: Hairballs UGH!
Post by: Middle Child on March 13, 2016, 01:12:36 PM
Mazy cat is having a terrible time, but at least she is bringing them up when she brings the food up. That is better than them being lodged...I THINK, even though she is still regurgitating at least once a week, sometimes more.

But the big surprise is Queen Eva.  She's never had hairball trouble EVER.  She's been canned fed since she was 8 weeks old and partial raw (now about 75% raw) since she was 2.

But last week in 48 hours she brought up three humongous wads of fur (when her tummy was empty of food thankfully) and then a small flat mat of one a day after that.

None since then, I have increased her egg yolk lecithin to daily and started her on vets'-best a few times a week.

Jennie, my only whole bone eater (once a week), has not had any trouble.

Yes that is what I mean, but Queen Eva has never, EVER brought up hairballs before. Ever.  And she is on more raw than every before either.

Sorry to hear about the furballs.  :(  Hope the above works for her.  Keep us posted!

Increasing the EYL to a half capsule a day seems to have done the trick for Queen Eva and Jennie.  I forgot to mention that she brought fur one morning too.

I looked this thread up rather than go digging through the journals to see if my memory was correct.  Yes, the same thing has happened this year, except more than a month earlier.

Yesterday morning, before her breakfast, Queen Eva hurled up a bunch of little fur logs, plus some of her food from the night before.  Two tiny pieces of raw meat, and a shred of Cornish hen cooked.

Then, last night, right before supper Jennie did the same thing.  She had twice as many fur logs, or rather, just as many, but twice the size, as Queen Eva, but also, oddly, a piece of fat or skin, which must have been from her lunch meal.

I'll increase their EYL to daily for a while to help them over the hump.  Or maybe Ill just try the daily egg yolk with them as I am doing with Mazy cat. The beginning of the season always seems worse, for these two, than later in the spring.

They are both 100% raw fed now, for almost a year. (since right after I started this thread, for Queen Eva, last summer for Jennie).

I wonder if my weather being different from yours, makes a difference?

I dunno about weather.  It's sunlight, the angle of the sun, that triggers the shedding season to start.  At least that's what I read a long time ago and I have always seen it to be so.
