Is that Allopurinol that Duncan's mom talks about http://preymodelraw.com/2010/12/02/when-is-prey-model-raw-not-ideal/ available for cats too?

Have they found the gene in cats that causes it like they have BRTs and Dalmatians?

Until now, I never equated the condition of MiddleChild's cat with this problem they know about Vladdie's breed--I've not had to learn much about it due to Vladdie's parents being tested for it before breeding.

I feed raw, but I won't do the prey model thing. I cringe at the thought of them dragging raw meat around in any part of my house (I have young grandchildren), so I grind theirs & use a bowl to feed. I just don't know of any way to make the meats I buy absolutely trustworthy & free of contaminates considering all the grocery meat recalls in the past. Due to that, I even wash their faces after they eat so, if they get something that's contaminated, they don't smear it around in the house from the fats coating their fur. Heck, if I still fed kibble, I'd still wash their faces now thanks to all the recalls of that.
