Your wish is my command. :)
Thank you for putting SO much useful info all in one post!!

Thank you Lola!
It's shocking how low vets will go to sell declawing. There is a vet in PA who likens laser declaw to a human having varicose veins or facial wrinkles removed with a laser. It's right there on their website. And they claim that any weight, any size cat, any age, it can be done safely and painlessly. No one holds these vets accountable. Yet.

This article contains resources and suggestions to help cats suffering from the chronic pain of declawing.

The most recent study (2017) found that, relative to clawed cats, declawed cats are:
Three times more likely to have back pain
Seven times more likely to not use the litterbox
Four and a half times more likely to bite
Three times more likely to be aggressive
Three times more likely to barber (over-groom, chew or pull out hair)
Dr. Jean’s Advice to Help with Phantom Pain
I reached out to Dr. Jean and she had a lot of really great advice for me. She writes an amazing blog and has tons of resources on declawing. She pointed me toward her article on relief for declawed cats which includes suggestions such as:
Medication prescribed for nerve pain
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
Flower Essences
Homeopathy (consult an experience homeopathic veterinarian)
Massage and stretching protocols
Flexor tendonectomy salvage surgery
If you think your cat may be suffering from phantom pain from being declawed, read Dr. Jean’s article on declaw remedies and then talk to your veterinarian.

Visual story about what declawing does to cats. A vet visited a shelter to examine the cats, where 25% of the cats were declawed. Declawing does NOT keep cats in homes.

Another peer reviewed study proving that declaw bans do not increase relinquishment of cats and do not reduce adoptions

Not sure if I've already posted this link to a peer review on the surrender rate in British Columbia Canada after the banning of declawing
https://www.canadianveterinarians.net/news-events/news/peer-reviewed-study-bc-spca-no-increase-cat-relinquishment-declawing?fbclid=IwAR3aSwChsjbZxox_hvbUL56ppdxy3fmP07Hkdymt47HHKknlnW0EzH_pdkc
The team analyzed six years of data (including three years before and after the ban) representing the majority of animal shelters in the province of B.C. After analyzing records from 74,587 cats, they found:
There was no significant difference in surrender for destructive scratching, and overall, this is a rare reason for people to give up cats (only 50 cats over 6 years)
There was a decrease in the number of cats entering the shelter and a decrease in cat euthanasia
Cats spent less time in the shelter waiting to be adopted after the ban vs before.
“As far as we know, claims by opponents of declaw bans that bans could lead to greater relinquishment of cats to animal shelters are not substantiated by any data, anywhere,” says Dr. Gordon. “Now we know with certainty that in B.C., this did not happen.”
In fact, another recent BC SPCA study showed that 82.6% of cats surrendered were for human-related reasons such as housing, human health, or financial challenges. Among the smaller percentage of cat-related reasons, aggression and house-soiling are the most common reasons. According to Dr. Gordon, both of these can be worsened by declawing.

2023 study on the effects of declawing on musculature.

excerpt
We found that the deep muscles that flex the digits, which are the muscles most directly affected by declawing, are significantly lighter (~73%) and less powerful (46–66%) in animals that have been declawed, while other muscles do not make up for these reductions.
Thus, declawing has a substantial effect on the muscular capabilities of cats, and because these deficiencies are not compensated for in larger cats, it probably has even more functionally devastating consequences for these species.”
