Hare Today questions?
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:15:50 AM »
I'm a little confused about some of the products offered by Hare Today.  Are they good at answering questions or should I ask them here (Lola?)

Humph.  You didn't answer my question though, are they good about answering in a helpful non condescending way? funny2

Okay - I am looking toward when Mazy cat's By Nature runs out.  I have got to have something for her besides Rad Cat in her rotation.  I'm still looking for a canned option.  I HAVE to have a canned food she can eat.

But aside from that, if I am going to go 75 % or higher raw with her (she is 50/50 right now) I need other foods.  She can eat only the Rad Cat Chicken and the Turkey.  I need more proteins, and at least one other source.

The main problem is if these sources are being fed GMO corn.  I really think that is a huge issue for Mazy cat, eating any kind of meat that was fed GMO corn.

So, Hare Today has boneless rabbit and boneless duck.  Now, in their bone in products they list whats in the grind and the percentages.  They do not list this in their boneless.  So I have no idea if it's just muscle meat, or organs, percentages of either.

https://hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_rabbitbonesorgans_1_lb
Whole ground rabbit includes meat, bones, head, and organs (liver, heart, lung, pancreas, thyroid gland, spleen and kidneys). The fur, stomach and intestine are removed.

Boneless fine ground rabbit meat. 1 lb packages.
Hand de-boned, not a lot of blood is retained, so much lighter in color then the regular ground rabbit/bone and organs.

https://hare-today.com/product/raw_pet_food/ground_duckboneorgans_1_lb_fine_ground
All natural, USDA inspected duckling, duck is higher in fat then some other poultry. This is fine ground with the bone, heart, liver, and gizzards included.

Meat/Bone/Organ ratio: Note, heart and gizzard is considered a muscle meat for feeding purposes71% meat 24% bone 5% organ [liver]

Boneless ground duck, includes skin. Fine Ground.
1 lb chubs.Whole duck is ran through a machine that debones, there may be some very small bone particles.

I"ve asked Tracy (owner of Hare Today) questions via Facebook and directly at her website:  https://hare-today.com/contact_us
She responds very quickly.

Maybe I'm confused, but... the link for the boneless rabbit you posted states:

Whole ground rabbit includes meat, bones, head, and organs (liver, heart, lung, pancreas, thyroid gland, spleen and kidneys). The fur, stomach and intestine are removed.

Meat/Bone/Organ ratio: Note, heart and lung is considered a muscle meat for feeding purposes
75% meat 15% bone 10% organ [liver, pancreas, kidney]

Is the bolded part the info you want?

As far as GMO info, I don't think you will be pleased.
Quote
GMO FEED: We are not certified organic and although we do not use chemicals on our pasture and harvest hay from our land I can not guarantee that animals that are fed grain or commercial feeds such as rabbit pellets is GMO free. The only way to insure GMO free is to purchase certified organic feed which would triple all product costs and make it not affordable to the average consumer. GMO is a controversial subject but my research indicates this is not a concern with animal feed. Please read this link for more info http://www.greenfacts.org/en/gmo/3-genetically-engineered-food/6-genetically-modified-animal.htm

If you want GMO free meats you will need to source a supplier of certified organic meats.

I just gave the wrong link I guess.  One link was supposed to be for the boneless and one for the bone and organ grind.

I just don't think Hare Today is going to work for Mazy cat.

Since Hare Today doesn't think "GMO feed is a problem" I probably don't want to use them. It certainly is a problem for Mazy cat.  Queen Eva and Jennie are "fine" with it.  But if Mazy cat can't eat grocery store meat, she probably isn't going to be able to eat Hare Today, either.

I just don't know what to do for her.

When I entered the info from the link you provided, I didn't see that it was the meat WITH bone.   Doh1

Because the meat with bone mentions bone and organs, I assume the boneless is just meat.  No organs.  I buy the 5 lb meat, bone and organ mixture.  I then add in secreting organs and boneless meat... to bring the bone content down.
