I'm such a dunce.  It never entered my mind that the "bullying" could be an excuse to cancel the contest to keep an anti-declaw vet from winning.   Doh1   :-[

What gets me the most, Pookie? In the end, "everybody wins."

That everyone-gets-a-trophy mentality. Kids growing up with that have never learned to lose, and they sure never learned how to handle "bullies." Today, everyone that doesn't agree with someone is suddenly a bully.

Sickening type of morality.

There has been no actual proof of any bullying or threats.

The Paw Project made an official statement yesterday that they believe the contest was cancelled because Dr Richter had just made first place..

Quote
Update on the America's Favorite Veterinarian contest: Since the contest was canceled, we spoke to several people closely affiliated with the contest. Here's what we believed happened. The vet we were voting for was the only one in the top ten who DIDN'T declaw. Your support made him likely (by A LOT more than any other on the list) to win. At first, the AVMF officials could not believe the votes were real because they have never seen such a rapid rise in votes for a single contestant in such a short time in the history of the contest.
When the contest officials determined that the votes were indeed legitimate, they (we have been told) couldn't tolerate that the 2015 Favorite Vet would be championing the anti-declaw movement (which the AVMA vigorously opposes), so they closed the contest, claiming, with little evidence presented, that it was due to cyber bullying from anti-declawing advocates. (Obviously, that's not how the Paw Project does things.) Rather than dealing calmly with the relatively few impolite and inappropriate (but inevitable in the era of the anonymity of social media) posts and comments, the AVMF chose to make themselves out as victims in order to deflect the spotlight off the real issue: the cruelty of declawing. They chose to forget that the only true victims are the cats who suffer from declawing. Please don't lose sight of that.
Thank you to everyone who rallied and voted. Please support one another and do not give up. We are all in this together. United, we will win.
Jennifer Conrad, DVM, Founder and Director, Paw Project

There was one of those I left FB quotes of that said they were one of them. But I looked and looked through their timeline and could NOT find any evidence of it. I think I put that part of the quote-box in bold.

The bottom line is the AVMA did NOT want an anti declaw vet elected as "America's Favorite Veterinarian".

AVMA is supported by vets, vets who declaw.  Those vets do not want to stop declawing ($$$)and if the AVMA took an active stance against declawing those vets would stop paying those dues.

If an anti-declaw vet was shown to be America's Favorite Vet, and that vet continued to work against declawing, that would put the AVMA in a very bad light.

Actually what they have done has put them in a very bad light, so they did not succeed in their smear campaign against the Paw Project and Anti-declaw activists.

I would have preferred the contest be allowed to continue and Dr Richter be in a position to spread the education.  But this way will work toward our favor anyway, I do believe.

Anti-declaw people (ourselves included) rallied together by VOTING for Dr. Richter.  The AVMA didn't like that.

You can BET next year's contest will include ALL vets that declaw.

Oh brother. As I said before, no one ever saw any proof of this bullying.  Most people take screen shots.  Somehow, not one of these bully posts were ever saved.

I don't deny there was some nastiness, but not anything like what the AVMA is claiming.  They are running scared because they do not want to lose declawing.  That's how much of a money maker it is. It really is that huge.

1. The outpouring of support from people calling for an end to cat declawing is undeniable. As a veterinarian who has never supported declawing cats, I was both touched and proud to see so many people willing to stand up against declawing. I can promise you your voices were heard.

What originally began as popularity contest suddenly became a referendum on the ethics of declawing. By the time the AVMF shut down the competition, literally millions of people had been reached via social media regarding the contest and the declawing issue.
