When you get the new tools, don't even get them near him with your hands on them. You want to just lay them down in the floor in places that you know he normally goes in the house--but where you and your roomie won't step on them.

Just leave them there for about a week for him to get desensitized to them. Once he's ignoring them laying there, pick the one you want to try the most. Then lay it by your leg and treat him. If he doesn't freak out over you touching it with him near. Treat him.

Do that for several days until he doesn't flip out, and then try having it in one hand, but petting him with the other hand. As long as he doesn't go crazy, he gets treats. Then start stroking it down his back. Stroke, Treat, & repeat.

Eventually he will get desensitized to the new tools. It might take 2 or 3 weeks, but it can happen.

"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog." Edward Hoagland
"Thorns may hurt you, men desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you're never friendless ever, if you have a dog."

I will try this, thank you!   :-*
