This conversation has been moved to Dental...from another area.

Yes, I want to get Arrows in to see the vet.  He has never had a dental. I looked inside his mouth... and it isn't pretty.   :(

Thanks.  Me too.  I'm hoping to get him in somewhere on Monday.  He has more going on, then I first thought.

Arrows is pawing at his mouth.  He is eating, just much slower.  I called two vets.  I can get him in on Wednesday at one... Sat with the other.  I'd call an unknown vet, but not every vet is a "dentist" also... from what I have read.
His symptoms = pain.  wtf

Oh no how awful! I'd get him in soonest.  Remember that a cat showing pain can mean he has had pain for a long time, and it is now getting to be too severe to hide.

Or it could be sudden (acute)

All paws crossed for him. Do you think he needs a dental specialist?  Why? Most vets (and many techs) are skilled at dentals? I remember Mazy cats trouble last summer....so I can fully sympathize.

Because of him showing pain, is why I wanted to get him in on Monday.  Once it is obvious he is pain, I know it is pretty bad!  I'm pizzed that the earliest I can get him in is Wednesday morning.   You would think the vet's office (both of the ones I called) would know he is in pain, when I told them he was having trouble eating and pawing at his mouth.

Some vets get further (more detailed) training/education in dental procedures... after vet school.  It isn't that I want a specialist, as much as I just prefer a vet that is a bit more "in the know."

Anyway, I have been able to keep him eating by adding water to his ground raw. His meals are pretty much soup.

By the way, his appointment is with our previous vet.  Glad I didn't burn any bridges behind me!

I was cutting up chicken today.  Arrows stole a pretty good size chunk.  He gnawed on it, like you would not believe!  Go figure.

That is GREAT that he stole and ate a chunk of meat! bananamiddlechild

Maybe ease your mine a bit over how he's feeling?

I'm glad he's eating other meals on his own too still.  That's what I did with Mazy cat last summer, remember?  Turned her food into soup, but she stopped eating raw all together, I had to resort to canned soup, and eventually just to bone broth.

Yep I agree with you, never good to brn bridges.  You just never know what's going to happen down the road.

All paws crossed for him.

He didn't eat the chunk of chicken... he just gnawed on it.
He ate no lunch today.  Dinner is in an hour.
I am however able to get about a tsp of food in him every so often.
He isn't interested in playing, but he has been hanging out with me most of the day.  At least he isn't hiding.  He's probably trying to send me mental waves to do something for his pain!
Yes, I remember Mazy having mouth difficulties.  It sucked.... for both of you.
I'm off to work in a bit.  Probably won't be able to post until late tomorrow.
Thanks for keeping Arrows in your thoughts.

Wellllllll his mouth is a mess, but the doc isn't so sure his issues are dental related.  That surprised me.  A lot.  I showed him the video of Arrows pawing at his mouth.  Explained his eating is hit and miss.
Did all the blood work and urinalysis.  Will get the results tomorrow.  If test results are ok, his dental is scheduled for Tuesday.
He ate a good breakfast.
Also, he was a VERY good boy at the vet's.  He is a social butterfly!

I'm more inclined to agree with you. You know your cat, and if they said his mouth is a mess, then the clues he's been giving you sound legit.

Good grief, sounds like what I went through with Mazy cat! (Vet saying "nothing wrong with her mouth")  Okay not exactly the same, but how can a vet say mouth is a mess, and not think the cat's "problem" is dental related?

All paws crossed Arrows' lab work is good and he can have his dental on Tuesday.  Did the vet give you pain meds?

How nice that he is easy at the vet. bananamiddlechild

Love and hugs to you both from me and the girls.
