Title: Dog Harness
Post by: Lola on November 30, 2018, 07:13:41 PM
Misa walks VERY well on a leash.  She stays by side.  No pulling.  If I stop, she stops.  She walks at my pace.

We have ONE serious problem.  If she gets spooked, she pulls backwards ...while trying to slip her elbows through the harness straps.  She has come close to getting free of the harness a few times.  It is amazing how she is able to contort her body to get out of a harness!

She also wears a Martingale collar.  I would only pull on it has a LAST result, as it tightens up on her NECK.

The collar and harness are both leashed.

We had another close call today... gotta find another kind of harness.  I wonder if PetCo allows a dog to try on harnesses?

How about a vest type, like they make for cats?

I searched "custom dog harness" most of what came up was useless crap, apparently in the dog harness world custom means decorate or "personalize" not custom fit.but these two looked promising on a quick glimpse

Adding vest to the search brought  up

You might find someone in Etsy to make to order also.

We have had a few different kinds.  You think you have the perfect one, until... you don't.

This info seems to be pretty helpful:

The good thing about today.... someone that cares for our pets from time to time, got to see Misa in her Houdini action mode today.
He is now a believer that the sweet adorable little Misa can be VERY strong and VERY determined, when in escape mode.

PS
Sorry... I was in a rambling mode.  Thanks for the links!  I'll check them out.

I have a harness that I used on another dog.  It is very well made.  But the dog I used it on previously was much bigger, so it doesn't fit Misa well.  I can't find a brand name on it.  Hopefully, I bought it on Amazon and can check old orders.

Nothing to add, but  fingerscrossed that you find something that fits her comfortably and works.

The one I like, but is too big... I checked Amazon.  I didn't buy it from there.  Poo!

Finding a dog harness for a dog that backs-up when scared... not an easy job!  Apparently, most are pullers... not backer-uppers.   Silly7

I finally got THE harness.  No neck straps, so no worry about neck or throat injuries.  Not tight around the arm pits, because it goes around the middle.  So far, so good.  It seems to be REALLY sturdy.

I already had a car seatbelt, but it does come with one.  One less thing for a person to have to purchase!

We have had several "backing-up" experiences with this harness.  So far she hasn't come close to getting out of it.  I do automatically walk towards her, when she goes into back-up mode.  I wouldn't trust it 100%.  But I trust it enough that I no longer put a leash on her collar as well.
