The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning pet parents, veterinarians, and health care professionals about the danger posed to pets by topical pain medications containing the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug Flurbiprofen. Exposure to even a small amount of these topical medications (commonly used to treat muscle or joint pain in people) can be deadly for pets.
The FDA has received reports of feline illnesses in two households. Two cats in one household suffered from kidney failure and were able to recover with veterinary care. Two cats in the second household died of NSAID toxicity.
According to the FDA, “The pet owners had applied the cream or lotion to their own neck or feet, and not directly to the pet, and it is not known exactly how the cats became exposed to the medication.”

Gum that contains xylitol also!  Other products have it, but gum seems to be the most popular.

I bet their hands were coated in it--unable to get it all off even if they washed religiously. Most of those things have oils in them and it stays on skin.

More on that cream is in here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidkroll/2015/04/17/pet-owner-alert-compounded-flurbiprofen-pain-creams-can-kill-sicken-cats/

It's not across the counter. It is something that Dr's prescribe from a compounding place. Therefore, I'm afraid it might be one of those things that people in pain are promised will work, and they can probably get it prescribed from some Dr used by the compounding company that has never seen them a day in their lives but gets paid for the 'scripts--and the compounding company is making a killing off of Medicaid. It's a scam thing that's recently been brought to light. Especially them going after veterans.

See this crap? "Physician prescribed and insurance accepted."  It's become a HUGE racket stealing tax dollars, and they have a LOT of "special" items that they get their physicians to prescribe.  http://painmanagementcream.com/Compound-Pain-Cream.aspx

If you look, you can find those kinds of sites all over the place. According to the Dr. that I saw on the news that the journalist ran to ground, he knew nothing about what was going on with Medicaid--and supposedly has since quit doing this and getting paid for it because of the story featuring him.

I really wish I could find that news story again so you could see the video.
